How many of you own the Solo Collection?

i was in the cd shop looking at all the fancy boxsets, thinking how unfair it is that they NEVER have any queen stuff, then i look up and its freddie!!!

needless to say i bought it and love it

I just have the 3 cd one...I'm interested in Queen, not the solo stuff really.
About the only songs I like are the famous ones.

All the above were widely available the first three already on CD, and the second two on either vinyl, CD singles or VHS video.

Hang on - you're missing the point. Yes, most material was available, but at a price.

Should I continue or can we consider the point made?

I did not want or need 1/3 of the box set:

The Freddie Mercury Album, Mr Bad Guy, Barcelona, or the Interview disk.

But buying something twice or more is an honored Queen fan tradition.

It was still worth buying the FM box set though.

I sure have it!!! Couldn't resist though it was expensive. I bought it in a CD store here in Italy, no trouble finding it, but it was just when it was released.
What I loved the most were the instrumentals and the songs by Freddie I had never heard: demoes, studio sessions, etc.
What I found a bit disappointing is that they included the solo albums which I'd guess most people willing to buy a box set would already own (thus increasing its cost)... But maybe this is a wrong assumption.

I bought the collection a year ago. It's really only for people who like Freddie's solo material, or else it can disappoint (I wasn't).

i bought in on the day of release & went overdrawn.. in hindsight i should have got two & kept one sealed.... ah well

To some, maybe, but not all........

If you were a dilligent enough collector *for long enough* you would already have bought this material WHEN IT WAS RELEASED, therefore, you wouldn't have spent nearly as much as you suggest. You could ALSO have COPIED the material from someone friendly enough to allow you access to their collection - therefore only spending the equivalent of 1 x 90 minute cassette......

If you like, but can we also consider that you were just trying to be right when in fact, you didn't really think it through......

The Guru is right: when the Solo Box was released, most of the Freddie material was out of print and very expensive.

I think the Freddie box is great. Sure, there are some tracks still missing and the essay about Freddie is stupid and full of mistakes and typing errors. But for once you have a product that was done in honour of the artist and not to make a quick profit. The whole presentation of the box, the high quality paper, the nice picture discs and the overall completeness of the recordings make a very fitting anthology of Freddie's solo work. It's not even very expensive considering the number of discs, the package and the number of printed and sold copies.

I got it a couple of years ago, just went in to the store and didn't even look at the price, was quite expensive but then again, I was going to buy it anyway!

We have 2 copies. When we ordered the first, one of the discs was a little scratched. Instead of having us send back the one disc for replacement, they just sent us a whole other box set.

Benn - I still have most of that material - I HAD diligently collected it. My point was that although *some* collectors had Mr Bad Guy on CD, it was long out of print and commonly valued around £100, making it inaccessible to *most* people.

When was it valued for that much? In the late-90s?

I ask because I bought two copies of it in 91-92, one for $10 and the other for $3.

14 track CD? That's good going.
