Yup. Better to have an upset Brian than a dead you. I'm with you on that one. :)

I don't see many of Brian's stature (in the music industry) answering emails from fans on their own website. Brian is very rare -- he really does care what fans think. Even though he's a tad busy with musicals, DVDs and CD re-re-re-releases, he takes (makes!) time to talk and give his opinions.
I think that's the person he is (and a caring Cancer at that). I have the utmost regard for him because he's answered many of my emails and even wrote me once asking about Nashville, which was out of the blue and very unexpected! Brian's a very normal human being, and a great person as well as a super performer (and astronomer!). We should all be thankful he's not like other celebrities that don't remember the fans who are responsible for their popularity -- talk about biting the hand that feeds them!
I think Freddie would have been the same way, and maybe John too had he not virtually disappeared from view. Roger's much too busy and it's not really in his nature to be like Brian. I'm sure he does care about his fans but he has other fish to fry![/QUOTE] I agree. I love reading Brian's Soapbox and leaving messages for him. My son also likes leaving him messages. I hope I have the honour someday of meeting him, that would be really cool;)

Hey folks - Brian is REALLY another man in private. I have a contact with him - believe me - it's his general position in SoapBox - to rant, to clobber, and it just depends on in what mood he writes his comment. In fact, this discussion is ... senseless ... Too much attention to USUAL HUMAN BEHAVIOR !!! It seems most of you still can't take him as a human - he's something very far and unreachable ..
And with his rants he just tries to point that he's a man, with his problems and pleasures, I don't know why his words seem so strange for you - he tries to be closer to fans, in many ways, tries to make people know not only his better sides, but the worse sides too ... I think that it's natural to hate someone always chasing you, giving you no opportunity for a little rest, without knowing you're a star and must be always ready to give an autograph ... He's a human. Very talented and fortunate, hard-working, besides he's rather communicative, so I hope it's not the case to judge him for that. Try to take him as a man. This helped me to become his friend some time ago.
Best cheerz.

I don`t think he knows most of you are annoyed by his rants and stuff. How many have had the balls to write him and tell him that? I`d like to know...

Mmm, interesting to see everyone's reactions.
Personally, I think there's far too much intrusion into celebs lives. Even celebs like Posh and Becks (Posh Spice and England footballer David Beckham for the non-UK people out there) don't deserve the intrusion, even though they use the media to their advantage. Their "job" is to be celebraties, but I still don't think that that gives the right to the media, or fans, or hound them when they're not on "official" engagements. I think the media especially should have rules enforced to prevent them doing this.
Now, as for this particular "rant" about the day the Formula 1 cars were in London, it was in response to a letter/email from a fan, who said he'd taken a photo but not approached Brian. His response was that - a response to the fan's letter. Now, Brian didn't have to put it on his soapbox, but he obviously feels it's worth doing to highlight his feelings. Some fans like to hear these thoughts, and some obviously don't.
I agree with Richard's comment that it may be best not to get so close to our hero's thoughts, but I also quite like reading this stuff. I can understand his feelings about this stuff.
A friend of mine was in South Africa for the 46664 concert and was given tickets and backstage pass and also spent about an hour in the hotel bar talking to Brian. He said he was a nice guy, that they talked about a lot of stuff, not really as a fan/hero, just as two "equals" so to speak.
So on the whole, I understand his point of view, and I don't think any the worse or better for him putting his thoughts down in his soapbox.

Personally, I don't just take Brian as that bloke in Queen who plays a mean guitar. I take him as a human being as well. It really is true that some fans don't want to see people like Brian beyond their profession. If that's the case, why read the soapbox?
All I can say is that if you don't like to read about his rants, stay clear of the soapbox and letters part of his site! Otherwise, you're just setting yourself up.
Peace,
Adam.

Fair play, he sticks up for Wayne Rooney and Slates Ken Livingston, but to go on about autograph hunters and picture takers the way he does really annoys me. Who put themselves in that position in the first place??? He's always been one of the most recognised people in the world, and people arent gonna ignore him! Im sorry Brian, if you dont like it - lump it! We dont need to hear it!

I never really expected this sort of reaction. I was reading the soapbox while I was slightly pissed off myself. Maybe the website should come with a warning...
*DO NOT ENTER IF YOURE SLIGHTLY PISSED OF OR ANGRY IN ANY WAY*
I know what a great bloke Brian is, He is the patron of my mate's sons' charity 'The Conor Ruscoe Memorial Fund', its on Brians website. My mate and his wife have regular contact with Brian and they tell me first hand what a great bloke Brian is, something Ive known for years with being a huge Queen fan. But sometimes I think he uses his soapbox for a few little things he should really keep to himself.

Maybe one can sum it up in this way: the older one gets, the more one speaks his/her mind. I read in many magazines that with age comes the privilege of not acting reserved as in your younger years and just letting it all out instead of keeping it in.
And remember, people are much more adept at laying all of their cards on the table now than, say, 20 or 30 years ago. Things are much more open and accepted. Think how "coming out" was not done then! That happened after Freddie died, but if he were still with us he probably wouldn't do that due to his upbringing. If his dad and mum were gone it might have been a possibility but Freddie, being the private person he was, would have kept it private, like he kept his illness almost to the end of his short life.
And Freddie probably would have been a "talker" like Brian as well!!

Then why are the "online diaries" like "LiveJournal.com" and alike so popular nowadays? Yes, it's modern to let your thoughts out .. And people like it. Why can't Brian like it too? Is he so different? Doesn't he have the same privelege as we do? And in fact - what he writes is a very small part of what he thinks .. He could write more .. But he doesn't. As we all can see - sometimes people write much much more offensive or private or anything else things in their online-diaries ... And nobody says "he should really keep to himself". I think a little more respect and understanding to Bri would be good and useful.
Best luck.

While I`m not annoyed by his rants, I`m getting tired of all those "my father/grandfather/friend/cousin/aunt/pet... died, and your music made me get through this", and Brian`s "I`m so moved" answers
