I first remember hearing it in 1980 or 81 so I was 9 or 10. I remember loving it and playing it all the time and my mom telling me how depressing it was and that I should listen to something else :)

I thought it was great.
The first time I heard it I only heard the operatic bit, and I laughed my ass off!

My mom had the Cd greatest Hits 1 and she always played bohemian Rhapsody for me , the first time i heard I was about 6
I heard it when my dad busted out the queen tape when i was 3 after just watching waynes world and i fell in love, one of the first songs i ever remember hearing. As a kid i was really sad cuz i really didnt understand the lyrics as much as i do now and the only thing i thought was someone was getting killed there sad and something to do with there mom Lol, what a weird kid i was
I acutally heard Weird Al's Bohemian Polka before I heard all of BoRhap.
Anyway, I heard the middle bit (starting with the guitar solo first) and loved it but forgot about it, and then when I heard the whole thing I released that it was that song I loved!
Same thing with the Mick Ronson version of "Madman Across the Water" which for ages was refered to as "that awesome, awesome song" and later referred to as "that awesome, awesome song that sounds like Prophet's Song and I'll probably never figure out what it's called."
But, happy endings, and I discovered what both songs were. Mind you, I have a whole pile of song snipits in my head waiting to be named and attributed.....

Why do people feel the need to slag off questions? Why bother if you don't like it ignore it! I hate the ones about Freddies personal life but I don't go slagging them because I thought the whole point of a message board was to ask questions and start debates! Just being negative for the sake of it is as sad as some of the questions!
I like this question, its one that people used to ask a lot! I've been into Queen from the very beginning and loved Liar and March of the Black Queen, so as a Queen fan Bo Rhap was not completely different except perhaps for the operatic section. My first reaction was, what a stupid choice for a single!! How wrong was I - lol

A friend of mine played it for me in 1991. The only thing I remember is that I asked about three or four times: "And this is still the same song??" But it had to grow on me. I did not particulary like it the first time I heard it. By now, I've listened to it too much.
at first i thought it was 3 different songs also...but i was was like 4 when i heard it..in 1992...i always told my mom..."play the 2nd song!" and she says..you have to wait till it comes on..its all ONE song

I heard it for the first time at my senior prom, and was paying more attention to my dancing partner than the music, so other than thinking it was nice, I have no clue what my actual impression was!
