I think that Queen became so good because of a couple of things:

1) Freddie Mercury's talent
2) The wright musicians to play with him
3) capable of writing all good songs themselves and everyone has different characters
4) very clever/consistent marketing. I think we don't have to forget that.

Queen is not the best band in the world, but Freddie is the best singer. Queen would have been rubbish without Freddie (AS EVERYTHING AFTER MADE IN HEAVEN IS)

Trifle harsh I think. They would've been very different without Fred, but it's true that they would not have been as successful. But I think you have to credit the three of them for No-One But You. that was a good track. Everything else they've done is really re-hashing old ground, so doesn't really count. I thought Roger's 46664 tracks were ok. But yes, they miss Mr Mercury (for inspiration as well as his talent)

One thing that the Tribute Concert brought home to me and was later confirmed by Made in Heaven is that the three remaining members of Queen are bloody great musicians.

They should still be working together and making new music!

I know the answer!!!!

It's just because:

QUEEN ROCKS!!!!!!!

Forever and ever and ever....
"Fuck them darling, if they just don't get it!" Freddie Mercury
"but Freddie is the best singer. Queen would have been rubbish without Freddie (AS EVERYTHING AFTER MADE IN HEAVEN IS"

STEPFORD ALERT!

Come on, There are far better rock singers then Freddie, there are far better pop singers then Freddie. Everything after made in heaven? That would be 1 song?
"On the first day Pim & Niek created a heavenly occupation. Pim & Niek blessed it and named it 'Loosch'." (Genesis 1:1)
Could somebody explain to me this "Stepford" thing?
Creativity can always cover for a lack of knowledge.
Fred said it himself, that the band were nothing without each other. So there you've got it -- all for one, one for all, and magic. And that doesn't even include mentioning talent, tremendous as it is.

Wow, I am just going to pretend you didn't write that there are far better singers than Freddie to keep from having a temper tantrum.
For me, Freddie is one of the best, if not the best, singer. Call me a Stepford, but his voice just takes music to another level.
Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.
I have to agree with Gunpowder Gelatine. I never find Freddie's voice boring to listen to on any album. He always had something that a lot of singers don't have. The delivery, his tones, the conviction in the words, etc. Plenty that I just don't find in many bands these days. Though, they are out there. :)

Peace,
Adam.
I expect many casual fans think a lot of Queen albums have 2-3 really good songs but the rest are duds. A Day at the Races, The Game, AKOM, & The Miracle come to mind.
"Queen is the only band in the world that can play so heavily that your nose bleeds, then offer a silk handkerchief to clean up with."
" Fred said it himself, that the band were nothing without each other."

I guess I agree with Freddie.

On their own, I never found any of the members music particularly listenable. Many of their solo efforts were almost laughable. None of them have really held up the test of time (All IMHO, of course).

But, together, for whatever reason, they clicked and really came up with some amazingly diverse and original work.

Also, let's not forget that they certainly produced a handful of bad songs too. ;o)

Their 80's stuff is a bit dated, but I find their 90's work and especially most of their 70's stuff still sounding surprisingly fresh.
I wouldn't normally pick up on something like this, and Drs DAJA's English is far better than my Dutch, but "Freddie´s voice reached the highest nuts" is possibly the most apposite typo I've ever seen !!! Nice one !

Some people are just fucking great songwriters, and when you get 4 together it's just brilliant, like Queen.

Wait a mo, you don't think Brian and Roger have had great solo song efforts? Dang...
