Respecting a religion is different than accepting mass discrimination due to that religion.
In the US, I feel that gay marriage is actually a right protected by our constitution. The *only* argument for not allowing gay marriage is the fact that someone's religious book says we can't. Well, in our country, we don't discriminate based on religion.
I can respect Islam, but not when it's an excuse for terrorism. I can respect Judaism, but not when it's an excuse for killing palestinians. I can respect christianity, but not when it's used as an excuse to deny the rights of others.

As for some of the disgusting prejudicial comments against gays here in this topic, it makes me ill. IMHO gay marriage is a civil issue not a religious one. Two people who are in love whether they be gay or straight have every right to have their devotion to each other recognized by the state (or country) they live in without religious pressure to conform (thats why we have basic human rights in civilized countries and not hypocritical dictatorships like some places on this Earth!)
Considering all the human rights violations in these so called "religious countries" I wouldnt hesitate to say, that it is not surprising at all how hypociritical they are to all but the male population. The things that go on in these so called "religious countries" behind their closed doors including bestiality, human torture, public execution, rape and mutilation of women and girls as young as 9 years old, etc.
IMO these ppl should SHUT THE HECK UP! With so many so-called straight divorces, violence against straight spouses and infidelity in traditional marriages on the rise. What makes anyone think that gay marriage between two partners who actually respect and love one another is a bad thing, GROW UP we love in the 21st century ppl! Not the middle ages!

The American Justice System is ALL about logic and reasoning. But I must admit that due to the human factor, much of what occurs is ALL about argument rather than reasoning. It's not good, but it's the best thing out there. It's sad, but true. You can't blame the American Justice System, but you can blame human nature.

Neither in my country. You can't however blame Christianity because some narrow-minded christians act like KillerQueen1946's art teacher. There are a lot of other Christians, especially in Eastern Europe, where I live, who have no problem listening to a "gay band" like Queen.
I live in one of the Eastern Europen countries, where people are neither catholic, nor protestant (they are orthodox christians... since the beginning). They aren't usually fanatical. Most of them are open-minded and listen to all sorts of music. Gay marriage is not a problem out here, believe me... That's why I was talking about respecting religion, because there are a lot of Christians who will never kill gays on the streets, just because they're gay...
Actually, there is hardly ever a Christian that would even think about killing homosexuals on the streets just because they are homosexuals.

In fact, the United States executed more prisoners that year than Syria, North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Libya combined. That's hardly something to crow about.
