Your opinions. Freddie grew the moustache because:

a) he wanted to hide his huge upper teeth and lip

b) he wanted to look more gay

Because it made him feel pretty, oh so pretty.

well i think many people think that its because of the gay thing , but i think it was more that he wanted to hide the teeth.

Most of the ppl he was hanging around with at the time had them, so im going with b ;)

I also think that the main purpose was to hide his teeth. I guess you have noticed how he often covered his mouth when he laught.

There's a picture in Peter Freestone's book of Freddie and a group of his friends, and I think every single one of them had a moustache, so I guess he was just following the trend.

I don't think that the moustache made Freddie look more gay... I really liked his macho look the most outta all his looks.

me too i think that it's because every gay had a moustache. Indeed, if you watch photos in the book by freestone, they all look like each other and that's horrific. We can barely know who is who as they all look like each other...

I think it was a fashion thing in the gay scene back in the 80's. I mean, look at some pics of him with friends. They all looked the same!! They all looked like Freddie!
AND it had the advantage that it covered his teeth which was also a good thing but he shaved it off in '87 and I don't think he'd have done it if he was sooo ashamed of his teeth. He could as well have had them fixed but didn't so I don't believe that his teeth were the main reason for his moustache.

It was the gay look back in the early 80's to have a moustache so I think that's why.
Oh yes we'll keep on tryin'

It's not a very tidy moustache, is it now? Beh. I'd've rathered a full beard like ZZ Top.

Hell, he probably wanted to. That's probably why he grew it. And that's also probably why he got a hair cut.

The moustache thing happens to be the trend in the early 80's in the USA.
It is also referred as the "Clone look"; Big Macho type, slick black cropped hair, big moustache, vest, jeans, sometimes a packet of Marlboro's on the Sleeve and white Sneakers.
The Clone look was a gay trend at the time in the USA. It was originated in San Francisco in an area called The Castro District, one of the biggest gay community in San Francisco. Gays recognized themselves at that time by those clothing codes.
My two cents....
