best drummer roger taylor or nick mason

Nick's playing is too tight, there is not enough feeling in it. On the other hand, Roger's playing is more loose and he put a lot of himself in it. Roger CAN groove :)

rick is the "playboy-drummer" and not a real virtuouso. roger has (had) much more power).

if asked about dark side, the only thing gilmour would have likd to be better was the drums!

I like the 80s stuff like the WWRY vid. Plent of cameras on Roger and his movement behind the drumkit is superb. Also on Staying Power at Milton Keynes. Roger is a far more technical drummer. With a lot more Grrrrrroooovvveeeeeee.

I think both are great, sometimes too underrated drummers, but I'd have to go with Roger. I know next to nothing about drumming, but he plays with an emotion that you don't always hear in Pink Floyd songs.

Nick isn't "mechanical" or technical at all. If anything HE was the one that was too "loose" and improvisational. Nick has even stated that "There was more pressure on me to make the drumming more accurate and less flowery" for the Wish You Were Here Album. Nick had some trouble on the Wall as well, he went so far as to work out a way to read music for the drums and Pink Floyd needed to bring in a studio drummer to record on one of the tracks. I think if Nick was the technical drummer he would have been able to work through any complexities that he might have come across. Roger had great timing and was very proficient in the drumming department and he was pretty loose too. I think its safe to say that Roger was a superior drummer overall.

You also have to take into consideration that Pink Floyd and Queen are 2 totally different styles of music. Nick played "less" because that's what Roger Waters wanted alot of times. But if you listen to the "Animals" album, you'll hear Nick give a little more than usual. Queen's music is alot more rockin' and needed Roger to "go off" more. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Roger. He is an excellent drummer, but I don't think its fair to say Nick wasn't. Personally, I don't think Roger's style would have worked on Dark Side of the Moon at all!!

Why not visit an Elvis Presley website and ask who was the better singer - Freddie Mercury or Elvis Presley?

Again, I think the conclusion would be quite predictable also!

Who is the best drummer? Buddy Rich, hands down. I think drummers like Bonham and Peart come in behind, but it's pretty far behind. No-one can touch Rich.

Now...who is the better drummer, Roger Taylor or Nick Mason? I love Roger, and Floyd's drumming never really impressed me. I think I'll have to side with Taylor on this one.
