I recently saw a "The 10 best rock bands ever" list from http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4595384/ website and was very surprised to see that Queen was not in it. I have know idea who came up with this list but I say the person doesn't know much about music... This is the list that was on the website:
1 Beatles
2 Rolling Stones
3 U2
4 Grateful Dead
5 Velvet Underground
6 Led Zeppelin
7 Ramones
8 Pink Floyd
9 Bob Marley and the Wailers
10 Sly and the Family Stone

What do you guys think? I say Queen is surely better than at least four of these bands for sure...
Freddie Mercury and Queen... A match made in Heaven!
bob marley??? wtf?
queen is beyond number 1, thats why they arent there :)
"We give him the biggest send off in history".
Everyone's bound to have a different version of the Top 10. I think Queen deserves a spot, but it's all subjective.
Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.
what a bullshit list!
bob marley & wailers a rockband???
who the f*ck are sly and the family stone??
grateful dead??

hahaahahaa crap list
We love you Mandy!
My respects to Bob Marley and The Wailers for bring a whole new music genre, but they weren't a rock band. Although a very influential one.

The Velvet Underground, and Sly and The Family Stone should definitely be out. I wouldn't even consider them Top 100.

The Ramones are too high on the list. I'd say Top 20 but not top 10.

Speaking of being too high (no pun intended) The Greatful Dead is indeed too high, man!

I'm pleased that both the Dead and Marley made the list. There is some good taste out there.

This is from a US perspective. We have to keep in mind, in the minds of 99% of people on this side of the pond, Queen were a band who had about 5 hit songs, and were relevant for about 5 years. That's the unfortunate truth.

But then there's the UK, where it goes Beatles, Stones, Queen, without question.

This is an ameican top 10, Queen wasn't that popular in the US than in The Uk or The Netherlands.
In the US queen wasn't just that big to end up in the top 10.

Who's Sly and the Family Stone?

Sly and the Family Stone were a more funk band from the late 60s early 70s and they did the song "Family Affair" I woud defintely not consider them rock. But to each their own I guess.
I definetly do not agree with that list but it's all a matter of opinion for everyone.
Total Blam Blam
I can't even think of 10 bands that I like. I pretty much just like the Beatles and Queen. A long time ago, I liked Nsync and Britney Spears, but let's not get into that.

WTF is right...Sly and the Family Stone are not rock 'n roll...F*** that saying "to each his own" but they were the kind of band that stuck to the african american forms of music (Rock in Roll is a melting pot of Black Styles but the White Man has made it his own. When I way Black Styles I mean Funk, Motown, R&B, Jazz, Blues, etc. and so on)...Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, Ella Fitzgerald, Professor Longhair, Marvin Gaye, Kool and the Gang...They are all very talented and influential musicians. And I reapect them all tremendously. But, they ARE NOT ROCK 'N ROLL!!! Bob Marley and the Wailers, I love that band...they're probably one of the best ensembles in music history...but they AREN'T ROCK 'N ROLL!! Dammit all! These Pop Music Industry Bastards are the reason for shitty lists like these...The American MTV and VH1 motherfuckers are to blame as well...I'm ashamed to call myself an American when the media is so biased as to where they hardly play Queen (just as an example...there's a lot of awesome rock bands that aren't given enought time!!). The Grateful Dead, arguably the greatest Jam Band of all time...I think so anyways. But "the Dead" should be considered a Jam Band...the closest thing to rock that "the Dead" could be is Country Rock, or maybe even Psychadelica...hell i know if i had a good hit of acid...or a few shrooms...or had some heroin in me like they did. Their stuff would sound even more eclectic and spacey then it sounds when you're sober! I don't think the dead would really even classify themselves as "Rock" because those guys were so amazing at what they did...they never really stuck to one genre of music...they were always exploring and JAMMIN'!! And now I get to Velvet Revolver, Great New Band...One of the best bands to surface in the past 7 or 8 years...you can't automatically throw them in the top 10 and leave one of Slash's main influences "QUEEN!!" out of precedence. Queen in reality...Queen is what musicians would call a PROGRESSIVE ROCK BAND...which would classify them as a group that would or has explored different facets of music, particularly ROCK...Velvet Revolver is a damn good lineup...but they haven't really even had their first album out for a year now, lets wait a few more albums and then well see if they're worthy...but by the way their first LP sounds they're on their way to being one of the best...But my point is...Queen should be in the top 5 of that list...and I've made my case for the people who shouldn't be on the list...

I think Zeppelin should definitley be higher. Marley, Sly, and Velvet all should be axed, U2 dropped into maybe top 25, Queen added along with Deep Purple and Rush. Now we're talkin'!! lol
