I recently saw a "The 10 best rock bands ever" list from
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4595384/ website and was very surprised to see that Queen was not in it. I have know idea who came up with this list but I say the person doesn't know much about music... This is the list that was on the website:
What do you guys think? I say Queen is surely better than at least four of these bands for sure...
1 Beatles
2 Rolling Stones
3 U2
4 Grateful Dead
5 Velvet Underground
6 Led Zeppelin
7 Ramones
8 Pink Floyd
9 Bob Marley and the Wailers
10 Sly and the Family Stone
IMHO,The Rolling Stones are overrated,Mick Jagger's voice dosn't sound very pleasant to my ears.I rate them in the Top 25 as U2. As I said in another topic they are a good band with some great songs but are way overrated, most of all by the critics. They are self-indulgent and Bono Vox has the vocation af a new messiah. It's only Rock'n'Roll!I don't like very much american acts with very few exception as Elvis,The Doors,Guns'n'Roses and few others. So I drop very quickly Grateful Dead,Ramones and Velvet Undergroud. Most of all Velvet Underground.I rate them in Top 100 an that's all.I can't stand their attitude of Intellighentia, that cerebral and pseudo-artistic way of R'n'R,for example made by Lou Reed, that feeling of "Hey,I'm the artist!".That's the attitude that I most hate in Rock'n'Roll, followed by the politicized bands. And Andy Warhol is the most overrated "artist" in history.I like Bob Marley very much but he ain't Rock,he's reggae! And I know just the song "I wanna take you higher" by
Sly and the Family Stone so I can't judge them, but they are hardly a rock'n'roll band...
Here's mine:
1 Queen
2 The Beatles
3 The Jimi Hendrix Experience
4 Pink Floyd
5 Led Zeppelin
6 Deep Purple
7 Judas Priest
8 Iron Maiden
9 Black Sabbath
10 AC/DC
