Banning policy?

No explanation? No statement of who was banned? please no boilerplate explanation that this is a private site - Provide a real explanation. Thanks ColdEarth and Libor for your insight on Madtheswine. I won't miss Daja or swine, but the way they were purged reeks of QOL ... and no I do not want to handle this under the table by e-mailing this site. Put the dirty laundry in the open to show some accountability.

Richard banned MadTheSwine - after complaints about the 3 pages of homophobic and racist posts on the Sharing The Music board.

This morning I deleted the accounts of HeM, Lez, Mrs. Freddie Mercury and Duke Drs Daja with Richard's permission. I also deleted all newer threads about newbie-oldie bitching in the Queen forum - which is a first. I apologise to all users who had something useful to say and whose messages were deleted in these threads. I feel very bad about this but I saw no other chance to save the notice board from going down the drain completely. I can only hope that there is a chance to get back to normal i.e. we have the usual number of nutcakes which are ignored or integrated by the Queenzone members.

I have argued against moderation here since day 1 and I am still convinced that there should not be any moderation. There is really not much to observe on Queenzone:

just don't make the board unusable for other people.

In the last weeks more people left Queenzone than ever before. There was just nothing left to say unless you wanted to fight the few people who spammed the board with useless repetitive and stupid messages. There is no way ignoring them when they post thread after thread and talk to themselves blocking the board for other topics. I warned them a couple of times that spamming leads to a ban in the end but I suppose they only ever read their own messages.

I hope this is enough explanation for you, Mike. This was a one-time action and I hope it won't happen again. However, I am not apologising, I am truly convinced it was necessary.

Over the past four years or so there were a handful of banning events that were handled less than ideally (IMHO), so this multiple banning plus people begging for moderation had me concerned.

Thank you all for your support. I never wanted to shut you up, Mike. Your input is important as someone who does not easily give up his values.

No arguments here :) I wasn't expecting so many to go at once, but I agree with the decisions.

There's a difference between the type of censorhip and obvious personal vendettas that goes on at QOL, and simply (finally) removing people who are so obviously making the environment bad for the majority.

And I definitely think it's better having just a couple people in charge rather than to start handing out moderatorial rights.

I remember the days-- when none of this was nessasary or even talked about...here at the zone

funny how 7yrs later, its all changed

there was a time when zoners looked out for each other
where newbies were welcomed and not pounced upon every time they asked a question-even if it had been asked a billion times before
and assholes were quickly and totally ignored by all ..and they quickly went away...
if one was attacked-all were attacked---
and we monitored ourselves and our behaviour instead of others doing it for us

now it seems-- banning-- deleting-- is the call of the day...

dont get me wrong-- i understand-(and my comments are not aimed at richard or YV)-however saddened i am that it had to be done
