I read somewhere that Freddie once wrote a song for a very sick young boy, because his family wrote Freddie that the boy was a big Queenfan, and they also wrote that he was very sick.
Freddie wrote a song, put it on a tape and he sent it to the boy. Sadly the boy died a few weeks or so later, and his family decided to bury the tape with him, so that no one could steal the song that was especially writen for him.
I can't remember where I exactly read this story, but I think it was in As it began.
Does anyone have any more details about this song and does anyone know if copies do exist, or what the songs sounds like at all?
I'm asking this only out of interest, and I have full respect for the decision of the family to bury the tape with the boy.

Are you sure it is that song, 'coz it was clearly mentioned that the only copy that exiested was the actual tape that was buried with the boy.

The FM Solo Collection has a "Keep Smilin': Dedicated to Colin Preston" credit or something.

Pim is correct. The boy's name was Colin Preston, and the track was recorded in the studio. The only casette copy ever made was buried with him. After Freddie's death QP saw it fit to release the copy held on the studio tape. I think all of this is in the book which accompanies the box-set.

I didnt know that John. Im quite shocked that QP released it, I think its something that they should have left well alone.

Brimon: You are not alone. That is why it caused a bit of a stir at the time, as some people thought that including it in the set was a little ghoulish. Others saw nothing wrong - consdering that Freddie too had been dead for quite a while.
Regardless of which side of the fence you decide to stand on this issue - if Freddie was still alive - it would NOT have been released.

Imagine...
Ýou're very sick, And you're a huge Queenfan. And your last wish is to have Freddie Mercury write a song for you. Finally you have got in contact with him, and he promised he would record a song for you. You spend your last days of your life expencting a great song like Bohemian Rhapsody or Somebody To Love. And then finally, a few days before you die you get to hear the song 'KEep Smiling' which he wrote for you....
