Just to give an example of what the diferent mix could change. AOBTD- imagine the track with not a dry drum sound but with a full sound, usual Roger style... Imagine guitar higher in the mix... Imagine lack of those weird sounds in the middle. And what? Different kind of track, wouldn't it be? That's the sort of changes we're talking about here.

Recently I got hold of a Dream Theater album "Scenes From A Memory"- but not the version avaliable in the shops but the unused mix. The band decided to remix it and used only 2 or 3 tracks from the original mix.
The "official bootleg" The Making of Scenes from A Memory? That's a fantastic recordiing - I like how it changes the whole story, not just the mix.
It's a pity Queen can't/wont do something along these lines.
From the new DVD of the making of "A Night at the opera", there are afew bits that are worth to be in the list.
But now, we know that Kenny Everett played the unfinished "Prophets Song" in his show.
I supposed that no one taped the show at that time, but is it possible for the radio to still have the recording in their vaults?

What's the longer intro for God Save The Queen? Is the drum roll just longer?
And...it wasn't on the back of a Keep Yourself Alive single from '73 was it? I was thinking GSTQ wasn't recorded until '74, but I'm thinking KYA was re-released after the Killer Queen success so maybe it was the B-side of the reissue (?)....

KYA was re-released in the States in July 1975 with 'Lily Of The Valley' and 'God Save The Queen' on the B-side.

That huge drumsound of Roger wasn't really done with mixing. It was a matter of placing the microphones right. When you use a lot of ambient mics (Microphones which aren't placed in, or just around, the drumkit. But which are placed in the room or even outside the room) I think Mack liked to close mic the drums. Or maybe this was done on purpose for this tight black funk sound

I reckon some of this material is in the hands of the "Uber's".
