Did anyone else find it distressing and completely sad to see that outfit perched on a hanger like that? I think I'll bid on it.

Yes Mrjordy, I did find it sad, was the first thing I noticed - it looked pretty depressing, I expected that they at least display it on a mannequin (model) at least, to make it look nicer. Just tossed onto a hanger made it look like something at the opportunity (charity) shop, not what I would expect for an auction valued at those prices.

I was just discussing this very thing with my best friend Sarah, who accompanied to the fabulous premiere of WWRY you in Las Vegas. I think it was then she became a Queen fan. Regardless, she's a Marilyn Monroe fan who keeps up with Marilyn's personal items that end up on eBay and in auction houses. I was discussing with her how bizarre it is to see Marilyn's pots and pans up for auction online - spoons from her kitchen have fetched upwards of $5,000. If she's looking down on us, somewhere, how strange she must feel. Surely she'd think it odd that complete strangers are willing to pay outrageous amounts of money for something that was kept in her kitchen. Something she ate her cereal with. With Freddie's jacket, however, I don't really know what my opinion is. I was shocked at first, seeing his jacket hanging from a coat rack. Just below it and to the right is Freddie, in all his glory, tearing it up on the Wembly stage. Isn't it odd to see the contrast of those pictures? Freddie, with all that power, with that trademark yellow jacket - then, that yellow jacket just hung up, for sale. Open to the public. It's odd that you can purchase a piece of history like that. Wearing that around would be like driving the JFK death car around town. I sincerely hope that it ends up in a museum, as some of you have said, so that we can all enjoy it. I think Freddie would have wanted it that way.

I think as long as the yellow jacket ends up with somebody who appreciates it more than Jim Hutton does, it might be worth it.

I wouldn't know what to do with it. You can't wear it, so what's the point? I'd buy an instrument used maybe.

Why the hell do you all hate Jim Hutton. Just cos Freddie loved him means he must be bad.

Jim Hutton, from what we know, has been incredibly loyal and took care of Freddie during his last years; he's been great and he loved Freddie very much, and so did Freddie.

What most people don't undersand and dislike is his attitude after Freddie died: I admit he's been treated very bad by Mary Austin, he's been sent off by HIS house after all... but I can't see how publishing a *so* private biography was necessary.
The rest, follows: private videos released, signed items sold, the legendary yellow jacket auctioned...

I sometimes don't feel comfortable judging: we are discussin about what we DO know, but who really knows Jim? who knows Mary? Who did know Freddie? We talk opinions and feelings, no universal truth...

That comment about Jim being "sent off by mary out of HIS house" - well it was not his house, it was Freddies !! If Freddie wanted Jim to have it, he would have left it to Jim in his will !! He did instead leave Jim enough money to buy his own home - and really, I am glad he left it to Mary, as she has looked after it superbly, and if one wants to speak about "loyalty" well lets look at her.......she has written no book of "kiss and tell" and she has not sold off Freddies private things (meaning photos and home movies). Jim is an "OK" guy from what I hear, but I am not sure if you can say he is loyal after his book and slowly releasing personal things that ought not be shared? But I feel the house went to the right person - she has honoured her promises to Freddie in every sense, and it was Freddies house to leave it to whom he liked, and he chose her, knowing she would take care of it. Jim would have likely sold it off piece by piece !! (like Marilyns spoons !! - LOL)

Isn't it true that jacket's not the only one, that there are duplicates? Surely there must be because stage outfits wear out easily, and the way Freddie did a complete workout during each show must prove that theory. Anyone?

Yes, that could be possible - most artists have duplicates made, as often when they do a show, they are sent off for cleaning afterwards, so they have back-ups in case of loss or such, and of course in case of damage (a tear or something). So it is possible there was more than one jacket. But I imagine Jim had "the" one in his closet? (lucky old him - damned if I would part with it !!). Wonder who got Freddies undies ?????? (hmmmmmmmm now that is a thought to contemplate !!) - hehe.

Then it could be a possibility! Wonder if the same's with the red jacket? I have that multicolored one in my mind's eye -- wonder what happened to that one? (Pity he didn't wear that one often!) It was dead gorgeous and later on, seeing the famous bedspread in the Slightly Mad video, brought back memories of it. Freddie had such an eye for colour and the impact it could make -- whoever knew the yellow one would be so prolific?
