Okay, so I did a kick ass project about AIDS in my Peer Leadership class and I profiled Freddie of course. Can I tell you how much disrespect I saw from my classmates? It's ridiculous! I was explaining how Reagan never mentioned AIDS until the late 80's and some dippy goes, "Reagan had AIDS???" Wow, pay attention.

But not even that. I'm showing part of the clips of Freddie from the FM Tribute Concert & part of the Untold Story and they all just START TALKING! Okay, so you don't like my project... it's mine, not yours, and it's not like you can't put your head down. But at least show me some respect! I don't want to be up here anymore then you want me up here!

And not a lot of people these days know Queen, especially where I live, so it was a bit surreal to hear the beginnings of Bohemian Rhapsody come from the speakers.

I'm done. I'm pissed off, done and yes this is Queen related.

You deserve praise for your courage. Ma'am, I salute you.

Thank you. It's tough standing up there talking about Freddie Mercury, and watching the documentary, especially when people are making fun of Jim Hutton's teeth (okay, so was I but that's NOT the point).

People don't take AIDS seriously and don't think it can happen to them and that just angers me to a level that I can't describe.

What's AIDS?
Creativity can always cover for a lack of knowledge.

Coincidentally, I am doing a report about Hutton's book tommorow in my Women's Studies class. Hope all goes well, considering that we are supposed to be "mah-toore" individuals...
Then again, there's about 3 of us guys and 30 of them girls in the class...

You actually have a peer leadership class? What is that like? All we have here in Newton, NJ is a Peer Leadership club sort of thing which partakes in various community service activities. Is it anything similar?

Heeey I'm from Manalapan, New Jersey. Funny! Anyway, it's an actual class and we learn about how to deal with people and different life situations and we peer-lead a group of freshmen six times a year. It's actually pretty cool but now I'm anti-Peer Leadership due to the fact that my class had zero respect for me today (except for my friend Joe who shook my hand, hahaha).

Erica, at least you tried to teach people about something but it sounds like you were preaching to the unconvertable.

Anyway, well done for trying girl and dont let the bastards grind you down.

Aaand I even told them I wasn't going to preach to them about AIDS. I didn't-- I was probably so boring myself because I hate public speaking. I hate thisss... but thank you. :-)

Well, you know, these are probably kids who have had AIDS this and AIDS that shoved down their throats their entire lives, but that indeed should be no excuse for their rude behavior. Oh well, I guess I can be guilty of showing lack of interest in the school projects of my peers.

New Jersey, huh? Maybe we'll end up in the same university.

Eh, there's a difference between having a lack of interesting and having a lack of respect. The first is understandable, but the second is inexcusable...Regardless of how 'interesing' one's work may be, if it's in that kind of a situation, they should've at the very least been respectful of the effort she put into it.

Ja ne.

Now I feel just absolutely embarassed that I shared this part of my life, especially the Freddie Tribute DVD with these kids. I accidentally put on the wrong part and didn't feel like changing it and I heard a few "whaaat?" comments going around. Just be quiet! Be glad you're not doing ACTUAL school work.

I'm sorry. I'm sure when I wake up tomorrow morning I'll be fine but for now I'm pissssssed.

Yep... similar thing here. Taught topic of Aids / prejudice through the use of Philadelphia. The lessons were aimed at 14 year olds.
