There seems to be 2 distinct types of Queen fan now, those who remember & support the 4 piece group and those who support the Queen+ May & Taylor bastardised version minus John. Fairplay to John for not particiating in the "Hall of Fame" and staying true to the original group legend. May & Taylor have been hinting for donkeys that they have this "holy grail" of a letter from John stating that they can do what they want with the Queen name. Why has this never been published in the Fan Club magazine, is there too much truth in there?? Does John think that everything post '95 is bollocks? 1. Negative Creep: as far as I know, we don't know Freddie's plans for the band after his death, so don't use speculations.
2. we don't know how John feels about the 'new Queen'. It might be uncertain whether he agrees, but it is just as uncertain that he disagrees. So again, don't use speculations.
3. stop seeing this as a black-or-white discussion. I don't especially like the new Queen, but I don't see any problem in them going on with the band/brand, which is not the same as supporting them.
Stop seeing John Deacon as a martyr for everything that is 'the true Queen', because there is no proof whatsoever for this.
Well, I usually stay out of these kind of debates because they happen all the time and I dont thing the 2 sides will ever agree. But because I'm completely bored at work I though I would give my 2 cents worth.
All this debate about tarnishing the name of Queen... what a load of bollocks. Queen have 30 years of material to back up what a great band they are. Roger and John performing under the name Queen is not going to change that. The Queen name just gives them far greater exposure.
Its also ridiculous to suggest that they are doing it for the money. Brian and Roger regularly feature in the list of the highest paid entertainers in the UK even though they are members of a largely defunct band. It is obvious it is the music, not money, that they love. Brian is particular just seems to love playing guitar. Why do you think the list of artists he as collaborated with is pages long?
I'm sure that should they decide to record a new album or tour under the name Queen they will be universally panned by critics (as they always are!!!) for exactly the reasons that people on this board are giving: 2 Old Farts cashing in on the Queen name. Do I care? NO!
Roger and Brian are two fantastically talented songwriters. They also seem to write their best music when together as a band. I only became a fan after Freddie died and I would definately love to hear new music from these guys. I would also love to see Queen go out on tour again.
I actually was in the crowd at 46664 and I can tell you that a crowd of 60 000 people (not Queen fans) absolutely loved the show that Brian and Roger put on. People out there still love Queens music and would rather hear is being sung by other people (i.e. not Freddie) then not at all.
I have also heard the Paul Rogers tracks from the UK Hall of Fame and I really think that he has a great voice. No, he doesnt sound like Freddie but do we want somebody up their performing as though he was in a tribute band?!? I think its far better for whoever sings for Queen to give each song a unique twist. I certainly hope its not the last we see of this collaboration.
At the end of the day the Queen name is Brian and Rogers to do with as they like. If you dont like it dont buy it. You can pretend that Queen died along with Freddie in 1991. I on the other hand hope that for he next 10 years Queen will go on to produce more great music.

I was surprised when they took the award and Brian announced that "we" are going to play, as if THEY are Queen! Most people who voted for Queen, voted for Freddie Mercury, not the guitarist and drummer. No ones being fooled - theyll find this out soon enough. Simply put, John is retired. Now, When I think of retirement, I think of people not working their chosen job anymore. Making music, touring, interviewing, and even accepting awards were all parts of his job. Expecting John to appear at an award ceremony is like expecting ol' retired Joe Blow construction worker to be back at the job on Monday morning.

Of course!!! i forgot John and Freddie were best pals. They used to go to the pub together all the time, drink a pint of shandy and play darts. Then later they would often be seen in a stripclub stuffing fifty pound notes down the g-strings of expensive hookers.

I respect John a LOT and i'm glad in a way that he took the initiative and called it a day as far as Queen goes. A part of me feels that B and R are trying to drag this out long after it has come to a end, but then i rememeber that music is a business to them....has been for MANY years.....so they feel a need to continue endlessly. John does not feel that way, as he was always quite comportable to put things aside and move onto something else. Brian has noted this quite a bit in the past.
I think John did the right thing, and it's too bad B and R can't follow his lead and sit back, relax, and enjoy the remaining years left in their lives instead of shelepping around the world neverendlessly for the sake of $$$.

I agree with several points here, the first being about John retiring. The man has simply retired, and whether or not it's out of respect to Freddie is not known, nor is it relevant. A good example of this is Bill Wyman's retirement from The Rolling Stones; personally, I would love to see Wyman join his old band again, but respect him for keeping away as they are the shell of what they once were. While 'Queen', as it exists today, isn't necessarily a shell, they aren't the same anymore.
With that said, Brian and Roger should continue, and I'm glad they're doing so. They could have taken John's way and become recluses, but they're showing an active interest in playing music again, which is important. They're still creative after all these years, and while it would be nice if John joined them, he has other priorities. So good on all of them for following their hearts, even if it's not what we, as Queen fans, want to see. Because, at the end of the day, they're the ones playing their music; thus, it should matter most to them how it's executed. I would hate to be an ageing musician with whiny fans expecting this and that of their idols; let them do what they want.

Err, yeah, I probably should have said "with intent to be creative"...the new songs for the 46664 project at least they could still write, but I briefly forgot that they haven't released anything new, either as Queen or as a solo artist, since 2001.
