T.E. Conway

how does everyone feel about Brian May doing that weird T.E. Conway stuff? I thought it was really odd especially because he did shows dressed like that, why did he do it I wonder. I loved his versions of maybe baby, hot patootie, and only make believe though. Also, do any of you know if Brian has anything in the works for another solo album anytime soon?

Personally, I was embarassed for him. Dressing up as a pretend 50's crooner just made him look ridiculous. Great for a kid's party or a charity TV show, but a serious concert performance? PLEASE!

Worst of all, it was at the beginning of the show; I'd have thought that the first thing you want to do when you hit the stage is nullify the audience into being completely posessed by you being up there - hit 'em hard and keep 'em interested. Just like Queen did with WWRY (Fast) or One Vision.

What does Brian do? Rather than stun the audience with a killer version of Cyborg, he dresses like a cartoon character. I walked out of the last Albert Hall show after 10 minutes because of it. If he wanted to do that, why not wait for the encore?

I just hope that it wasn't his idea and that he was erroneously advised.......

I thought the TE Conway thing on the 1998 tour was great.

He treated it like a support act. It was great to see him enjoying himself and trying somthing new.

The Albert Hall gig was made 'standing' and we had a load of fun singing along - I was as close to Brian as I am to this computer.

Really miss the live gigs. I didn't know how well off we were in 1998/99 with all the solo albums and tours.

Which do YOU prefer? Brian and Roger solo gigs or the We Will Rock You musical?

I must admit, I didn't know what the fuck was going on when I saw him at Manchester in 1998. But then I recognised the nose and the voice and thought it was a capital hoot. Great cover versions all.

I remember Brian's show in Cologne in 1998 and I did not realise it was him, either. IT was odd sure, but nice to make a cameo during his own show in a way. Sadly, he ruined his voice during "make believe" during the long and high "you're my every dreeeeeeeeEAAAMM". His voice cracked and he had to struggle the rest of the concert. Nevertheless a breathtaking concert with great songs...

Oh my god, I must have been at the same gig as you Flashy. I went to see him in Manchester in 93 too and it was a hell of a lot better than 98. And that slow version of Hammer to Fall *ouch*, He tried to do what Eric Clapton did with Layla - rather unsucsessfully.God I miss the tours :o(

I have that concert on tape.. and it sounded great.. really..

Add to the whole experience an awful bass solo from Neil Murray and that really was enough for me - I felt thoroughly cheated out of my money that night. I saw some great Brian solo shows in '93 - Brixton was absolutely stunning but that just was a completely different performer.

Roger on the other hand constantly surprises and pleases solo.

I liked the TE Conway stuff : it was pretty funny.

I loved the T E Conway part of the show, because it was so unexpected. They were some excellent shows, so hats off to Brian for trying something different.
