What do some of you guys think are the weirdest or worst anime movies out there from Japan? ...best anime movies from Japan?

I hated the "End of Evangelion" movie. I could not understand it at all, so I stopped watching it 10 minutes into the movie. Luckily it was a rental...

"Akira" was also weird, though I actually liked it.

I liked these movies that I've seen this year:

Grave Of The Fireflies (very tragic story! absolute must-see)
Escaflowne The Movie (aka Escaflowne: A Girl In Gaia)
Sakura Wars The Movie
Inu Yasha 3: Sword Of World Conquest (*Jap. title. I only have this fansubbed, but in 5.1 DD!)
and last but not least - Pokemon 6: Jirachi Wish Maker

Let's hear your opinions

What are anime movies???

"Grave of the Fireflies" is SO sad! It'll jerk a tear from the most hardened heart. It's NOT a movie to watch when you're already depressed. That said, It is a WONDERFUL movie!

All the octopus hentai I've seen. Too damn freaky.
Also, the DragonBall Z series rocks. Love the video games from the good old Sega and SNES.

Basically, the Japanese form of animation, known as "anime" these days. It used to be known as "Japanimation". It's their form of "Disney", except to much greater and wider extents (and not just for kids either, despite what some people may say!)

Very common, these movies! Some new releases (theatrical and DVD-wise) in North America currently include "Yu-Gi-Oh The Movie" (released by 4Kids, for a young audience) and "Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence" (by Mamoru Oshii, also the director of the original GITS movie; I don't remember the distributor for the North American release, but this is for older audiences, that's for sure!), as examples.

If you remember the Pokemon "fad" that ran for a few years, you may remember the popular #1 children's TV show and movies of the same name. That's one of the most common anime TV shows of the late 20th century, which has been imitated by "Digimon: Digital Monsters" and "Monster Ranchers", among others.

"Dragon Ball", aka "Dragon Ball Z" and "Dragon Ball GT" is one of the more common staples of anime in both the USA and Japan. It ran from 1986-1996 in Japan, spawning several TV series and about 13 animated movies (plus an awful live-action movie made in China!)

Though I have to say I hate DB. I still like Pokemon, but I stopped watching the TV series years ago!

I love Dragon Ball. Not in english though... BLECH! And Ghost in the Shell is a bore and a half (not just the movie either). Halfway through the movie, I wanted to cut my eyes out with dirty broken glass, Then set myself on fire. ;)

Have you ever seen "Urusei Yatsura", Dan?

I'm not really qualified to speak on the subject but I did like the animation in "Kill Bill". I believe that was Japanese anime...

I've never seen it, but I can tell you right away that it is anime (I read it in the manga book that came with my Linkin Park "Breaking The Habit" music video DVD, which is also Japanese-animated! The animation director for the animated KB sequences was also responsible for the animation produced for Linkin Park's BTH video, which is one of my favourite MV's of all time! And not just for the animation either, which is superb on its own!)

I love UY. That's where the 2nd half of my nickname comes from, in case you've never noticed :)

Lum's very sexy, I should say!

What are your favorite UY moments?
J
It's wicked that you get so excited!
Cheers!
