the cold war was far from being over in 1984.
only a few (2, i think) years before, nuclear weapons were stationed in both parts of germany.
As a Russian I can confirm this. The cold war was finished at the begin of 90s.
And there's another one Queen's quote about the cold war - on 'The Miracle': "super-powers always fighting".

i have always liked that line too. i also like 'lock your door 'cause rain is pouring through your window pane', i'm not sure but i think when there is a nucleur attack it causes something like acid rain, i think that is what it is reffering to.
