I have heard that Freddie was a decent guitar player, but I haven't ever seen him play one. Does anyone know of a live concert or anything where Fred plays guitar? I heard Brian say he performed the Rock section of Bo Rhap on guitar once at a live concert. It would be awesome to see that.
Was there anything that Freddie couldn't do?

I think Crazy Little Thing Called Love is the only song where he plays the guitar live. At least, I've never heard of any other songs where he does. Do you maybe have a quote from Brian where he says that?
Well, I heard Brian saying that Freddie played live in Bo Rhap on the Greatest Hits DVD extras about the making of Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm not sure where exactly he says it, only that he does, or at least he thought he remembered it.
Hi all,
I thought I heard that he wrote songs like 'Ogre Battle' on guitar? Seem to remember Brian saying how Freddie would bash away at his acoustic guitar to come up with his 'heavy' songs.

He did write Ogre and BohRhap and CLTCL on guitar.
I believe he showed Brian on the guitar, but (except for CLTCL) he didn't recorded them for the final cut.
I heard Brian say somewhere how quickly Freddie's hands moved while playin the guitar.
I'm sure Freddie was being mostly modest while talking about how poorly he played.

Freddie played good. Of course he was not Steve Vai... his comments were self-depreciating, like when Kenny asked him how did he work out harmonies and he said "same as you do", but of course it`s not that easy.
Bo Rhap was written at the piano. Perhaps the riff was written at the guitar, although he could have played it in the piano and then Brian transferred it to guitar. Same for Deacon`s bass-parts (not only concerning that song).
Liar too was written on guitar, and probably most of his early work (e.g. what he composed for Ibex)

I'd like to know surname of this Brian who told that Fred played Bo Rhap's hard rock part on guitar... :)
Yeah I have only seen Freddie play the guitar live during CLTCL. He does this on every concert I should think - well obviously not ones before 1979! He always mentions he "only knows three chords", and that he's such an awful guitar player. One of his quotes was "I've made no effort to become a guitar hero because I can't play the fucking guitar!"
In reality I think he played the guitar well - just for him it was always a bit of a joke!

DID he play a six string at the Bowl? I didn't notice, I'll have to look at that again...
Yes, Freddie sat in a chair, in Cleveland in 1980, and started strumming Crazy little thing called love, on the guitar, he also did it on the 1982 tour in Cleveland.........did a hell of a job!
Well, he always says that he suck on guitar but I've read that Brian says he's not that bad. He uses guitar to compose some of his songs and he couldn't compose on a instrument he couldn't play on!!
You can also see him play at Live Aid with his lovely white Telecaster. At least that's what I think it is.
The only song as every one has already mentioned that i have seen him playing guitar live is Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
He played the guitar on CLTCL live, but did he actually record it on The Game album.

Sources says yes, he did.
