Personally I think they were utter crap and they only got media attention thanks to the way they created controversy.

I don't give a fuck about punk, and I'm sure that's the way punk artists like it.  What self respecting anarchist would want folks like me listening to them just because they're 'history'?

Love 'em. Which other punk band went down in history? The Clash maybe but you never hear of Sham 69, The Slits, Buzzcocks. Unless you're in my house of course.

*puts on Hersham Boys at full volume and annoys the neighbours*

now all i have to do is educate the masses on the wonderfulness of Joy Division and Siouxsie & the Banshees and the world will be a better place :-]

Hahaha, they were nothing more than a 'boy-band'.

Put together by Malcolm McClaren for the purpose of, guess what?.. making money. That and furthering Vivienne Westwood's career.

They were not the first punk band, but essentially 'ruined' the punk movement by making it mainstream.

Johnny Rotten has shown since anyway that in his heart he is in fact a big ole softy with a very admirable love and passion for nature.

They are the biggest pile of hypocrasy  in musical history.

The whole punk scene was for the most part utter shit, and yet it was necessary for it to happen.

Bands in the 70s were becoming way over the top, and that was a great thing of course for us Queen fans. However, Glam Rock was making the rock scene to theatric and flamboyant, and Progressive Rock was too experimental and musically technical. Punk rock went to the whole other extreme by making music that was anti-music. It brought the most simplistic musical knowledge, and gave music to those who weren't so skilled or talented for that matter.

The good thing about punk rock is that it influenced the whole alternative and new wave scene from the 1980s.
