Who should play bass?

Given that there is no John.

I want Gail Ann Dorsey, David Bowie's bass player. Why? Well apart from being a fantastic bass player and singer, these are some quotes from here:

Gail Ann Dorsey: Early on, on the Outside tour, David asked would I consider singing Under Pressure like the Annie Lennox duet he performed at Freddie Mercury's Memorial Concert.

Gail Ann Dorsey: Queen is my favorite band of all time and I remember being so overwhelmed at David's suggestion that I cried.

Gail Ann Dorsey: To sing a part originally sung by Freddie Mercury so far has been the greatest honor of my life.

I'm sure Gail Ann Dorsey is an excellent bass player and brilliant musician but she's simply ugly. I'd probably prefer our good old Neil Murray. OR somebody with a "rock appearance", like the ex-bass player from Metallica.

He's playing with Freddie in heaven.

Or you should mean Jason Newsted. Queen is not his style, so no need for him.

I agree with Mr Scully. I want someone who will fit the bill with Paul, Brian and Roger. A classic rock bassist that has the years of experience behind him. Although I am deeply saddened by John's departure from the music business, at least we can get a fourth vocalist.

How about Boz Burrell?

Willem - yes, I mean Jason Newsted :-)

Gail simply fits more into some band that plays funky music. But this is supposed to be hard rock!

They could always get Tim Staffel to play bass and change the promotion from Queen+Paul Rodgers to Smile+Paul Rodgers. :-)

To make one thing clear: Neil Murray does not look better than Gail Ann Dorsey. I wouldn't like to see any long-haired rock cliché beasts on stage besides Brian May.

Tim Staffell. Now there's a cool idea. The next best thing to John!

Definitely Gail Ann Dorsey.
She's a brilliant bassist and singer, surely that's the only thing that matters.
Her playing would definitely fit in with the Queen sound.

Oh and Mr Scully, Jason Newsted and Neil Murray are not exactly my idea of rock 'n roll beauties. :-)

Indeed... it's the music that matters so I'm sure Gail will do a brilliant job...

Is it fair to say that Pino P. has a leg up on the competition because he played with the boys at the UK Hall of Fame gig? The only drawback, of course, is that The Who machine is also turning its wheels for a 2005 tour, and he would undoubtedly show his loyalty to The Who, which I would certainly understand...
Looks like we're gonna have to settle for ol' pal Flea!

Hands down Gail Ann Dorsey
Freddie: "Yes, we'll have a great big cock fly over the crowd!" Roadies: "Yeah! Great Idea!" Freddie: "And it will fly into a great big mouth with a moustache!"

Sure, I hope for a rock oriented player as well, but Jason Newsted's roots are in metal (C.O.C., Metallica) and has only recently made the step to some more laid back music with Echobrain. But if he's going to play, it would be only 70's songs, and that is NO WAY going to happen. Unfortunately.

No idea who they should tour with though. Would love to see John Myung from Dream Theater, but that's not going to happen either, since they are supposed to finish their album by then.

According to a fan on QOL, Gail won't play with Queen...? I wonder if it's just a rumour or not.
