Skynard...rubbish, just as everything else that comes out of the Southern United States.

Let me remind you guys that black southern culture was the best thing that could ever happened to what has been made of popular music today.
Blacks in the south were the creators of a great variety of music genres including jazz, blues, and R&B which eventually lead to a fussion of all these music styles and gave us an immense variety of popular genres like rock and pop that have changed the world for the past 50 years.
Sadly the hatred towards blacks in the south forced them to take their cultural value to the north, where they established themselves in big cities like New York, Detroit, and Chicago. Their music was far more appreciated there, and they didn't suffer as much the opression of the white population as they did in the south.
As for Lynyrd Skynard they're a disgrace to American music. Not only their music SUCKS, but they might as well carry a Third Reich flag around too, to show what they truly stand for.

Well, I'm sorry for criticizing the south, and yes it would be wrong to say that every single white person in the south is a racist, a bigot, or a redneck.
The truth is that the issue with racism today in America, and particularly in the south has in many ways changed for the better since the Civil Rights Movement, but in many other ways it hasn't changed at all.
There's still a lot of hidden bigotry, and racism in America (not only in the south), but if there's something worse going on in the south is the fact that a lot segregation laws, and symbolism of racism and opression (like the confederate flag) hasn't been abolished. Not to mention, that many segregation laws have been aprooved by southern states even after 1963.
If I make any kind of criticism, is because something wrong is still going on after 50 years, and it needs to be stopped.

Agreed it needs to stop but you can't tell me Long Island is free of racist. maybe not so much blak & white bu among other ethnic groups.

And judging from a few responses, nothing has changed. And may I remind that the Mojo interview Roger claimed they toured with Skynyrd in 1971 in Germany. Shouldn't that really put off anyones bullshit detectors? I guess not.
And anyone familiar with music history, might just have a hard time considering the current LS as the "real" Skynyrd, if you know what I mean.
Personally I've always heard a lot of Skynyrd influence in G'n'R (Slash has mentioned the band listening to a lot of Skynyrd during sessions of "Appetite F.D")
I think I'll now go listen to a bootleg of these "disgraceful racists" off their rocking show in Osaka, Japan 1977. Must have been tough playing for Asians...

I hate to say this but in order for you to fully appreciate Lynard Skynards contribution to AMERICAN music you would have to be from the South like I am here. I don't usually get into this whole country Vs. country thing but I strongly believe that alot of you British people haven't the slightest clue what they was about and what they sung about. You would have to be from here to see that and besides Lynard Skynard is 10 times more popular that Queen ever was or ever will be in this country so if you ask people over here I'm sure a great deal of them would say Lynard Skynard, however with all that being said I think that Queen are better, and before any of you all come back at me that may be offended and think that I'm putting Britain down its just that Queen where a more world wide institution and I know a great deal about them because of that. It would be like me commenting on a band like the Boomtown Rats or Mott the Hopple, since they mostly stayed in Britain and wasn't well known outside there home country I would have no input on them. So the same is for LS and for the fools that think that the confederate flag represents Genocide I think your about as dumb as a box of rocks...........LOL........Peace
Furthermore after reading some of these posts. I thought the question was who's better. Nobody asked for a history lesson on segregation and racism. Some people just can't stick to a subject to save there ass's that's for sure. Lynard Skynard was a group who was proud of where they was from and never once sung a discriminating song about anybody. Its pretty stupid if you wear or fly a certain flag which is only made of fabric, you got these idiots out here that want to label you a racists and start talkin about shit that happened over 40 some years ago. Even though I think Queen is better there's really no reason to compare them because one was Glam Rock and the other was Southern Rock. 2 very different genres. I'm from Ohio in the United States and let me saay that anyone that knows anything about rock that I have talked to acknowledges that Queen is much better than Skynyrd.

I agree as I said above that they are better and its STILL stupid to refer to a person waving the confederate flag to ultimatically be a racist. Nobody can help that the KKK chooses to do such things just like rappers aren't ultimatically gangsters just because they sing about that lifestyle and them playin a concert for a southern governor that wanted to bring back slavery seems like something out of one's imagination. The confederate flag means many things to many different people but I would say for the majority of the south in the modern age it symbolizes where they are from.
