Anyone who states that Skynyrd (spell it RIGHT) is a racist southern band, obviously hads not payed attention to their lyrics. In "the ballad of Curtis Lowe" Skynyrd shows a sensitive side to the black population of the south and in "That Smell," clearly states the disadvantages of drugs and alcohol. So look out Oak Tree, you're in my way, and open your ears to the interpretation of music you idiots!

By the way, Mr Jingles, check the history Book... the Confederate flag was around way before the KKK. They didn't invent that. The Confederate flag symbolizes Southern history. It's a piece of HISTORY. You can't DENY that! So stating that it represents the KKK is completely wrong. You fool!
Also, the swastica used by the Nazis was originally an old Indian symbol.

I totally agree with you Rainmustfall........but I spell it how I spell it my friend......LoL.......anyways its so sad that more and more of these threads people just don't stick to the subject. It started out as who's better Queen or Skynyrd, and it has ended with history lessons, KKK, Racism, Confederate Flags...........etc
Good point rain about The Balled Of Curtis Lowe.Ronnie would give this African American blues artist money for drinking money in return he was taught the Blues.In the song RVZ said "momma" used whoop me,but I'd go see him again.The song is a tribute to an African-American blues musician that he must of respected.Some of these post have referred to L.S. as racist,hatefull even genocidal.

If the confederate flag symbolizes heritage instead of hatred, then how come the Ku Klux Klan proudly waves it around?
Some could also bring the up excuse that a Nazi swastika is about heritage, but is it really?
One thing for sure is that both flags were created to represent the power and the struggle to keep opression against one or more ethnic groups, and that's something that you can't deny. If you don't believe me, check your history books.

The KKK also uses a cross. Does that make the cross a symbol of racism?

I never said the KKK created the Confederate flag.
It was created to represent the states who fought to keep slavery going on, and who stood against Lincoln and the north states who wanted to bring freedom to black slaves.
Just like the German flag was replaced by the Nazi swastika to represent the total and absolute power of the Nazis over Germany.

Almost seemed to me as if you were earlier on trying to give me a lecture about generalizations /prejudice based on nationality (Americans in this case) when I've never displayed prejudice or posted in a manner that attacks US people in either on this noticeboard, or in this topic.
