I agree that it was odd that he knew of David Bowie but not Freddie Mercury. That never made any sense to me. I also think that he wanted to paint a vile picture of Mary Austin. As far as leaving the house to him, I think all was said and done in the will. If Freddie had wanted to leave it to him, he certainly could have done so. Instead he left him 500,000 pounds, the same amount he left to Peter Freestone and Joe Fannelli.
I havent visited this site since I brought up this topic many moons ago (seems like it anyway lol) ..... it's been a long time to say the least., thought it was dead and buried...how wrong I was! afterall the abuse I got ... I chose to leave this site .... I thought Queen fans would be 'different' .... sadly, how wrong I was.
thing is ...... Ive been a Queen fan since I first heard them., way back in the mid-70's .. all I asked was a simple question "wheres Jim Hutton" turned out to be a circus really .... I never once in my wildest dreams thought for one moment that a few of you would discriminate me for putting up such a topic .... seems I touched a few nerve ends ....... lol
I am still interested to know where Jim is ... I'm noisy, cant help it ...... thing is .. I read the book, several times over .... I saw one reply (sorry didnt have the time to read your name)......... Jim had never heard of Freddie but knew of David Bowie .... strange??? nah thats being honest in my books ...... anyone here heard of Ali Campbell? no??? he is the lead singer of UB40 .... I'm a big fan of theirs .... I knew that..... but have you guys ever heard of Ali Campbell? depends on what music you listen to hey? do not judge Jim because he'd never heard of Freddie ..... not many people did before his death ..... Queen arent the only famous band you know..... as for Mary getting the majority of Mr Mercurys estate ....... well, she did kick the guys out of Freddies property after his death, even though he clearly stated he wanted them to stay until they wanted to leave themselves...... yep...... in my books that damn selfish!
I happen to like Jim .. in fact, if I ever had the priviledge to meet him face to face, I'd buy him a beer or 2 ..... afterall, Freddie loved him ...... and he loved Freddie as much as we all do ....and Jim, if you read this ..... all the very best to you my friend . and If I had the opportunity to 'walk in your shoes" I wouldve written a book too ......

Freddie Mercury did not only become famous after his death. His name is synonymous with Queen and they were very popular in the U.S. during the 70's and early 80's. I know that because I was one of their fans back then. They filled enormous venues, selling out Madison Square Garden 4 nights in a row. They lost popularity with many fans here in the early 80's (not me though) because of the direction their music had taken. However, they remained enormously popular throughout Europe, rivaling the popularity of the Beatles. I am also a huge David Bowie fan, following him since 1971, but Queen got more airplay until later years. As far as Jim Hutton's book goes, I read it twice and enjoyed it, but I do not get the impression from the book that he knew Freddie all that well. The book talks about where they went and what was bought for who, but it has no real substance as far as getting to know Freddie. I personally have no problem with Jim Hutton and I like the guy, but somehow I don't think their relationship was as deep as he would like people to believe. Peter Freestone wrote in his latest book, THE AFTERLIFE, that he would not have written the forward in Jim's book, if he had read it beforehand. He and several other people in Freddie's inner circle have stated that they don't recall a lot of things happening exactly the same way that Jim does. As far as Mary Austin goes, obviously it was Freddie's decision to leave her the lion's share of his estate. He could have left it to anyone of his choosing, including Jim Hutton.
