Did Freddie's voice really change while he was ill?

I mean, perhaps a bit softer but not as much to make it remarkably notorious. Take for instance that "Mother Love" was the last song he recorded, and I don't think it changed that much in any way. Freddie's voice was still strong and powerful. If Freddie's voice sounds a bit more soft and less husky than on 80s albums like 'A Kind Of Magic', it might have been probably due to the fact that after finding about his illness Dr. Atkins told him to immediatly quit smoking. Besides, Freddie once admitted in the early 80s that he didn't mind smoking because he actually wanted his voice to sound huskier.

What actually surprises me is that Freddie's voice wasn't affected in a bad way by his illness.

Is it not time to stop mulling over this topic - when will it end?

I'm going slightly mad

there was a comment made during the filming documentary where it's said he was "£plastered" in makeup and had extra layers of clothing on to hide the fact that his clothing was hanging off him

on this vid he was clearly terminally ill with soemthing
i remember at the time thinking he might have had cancer or something similar - then when there was nothing really said for a while - i thought perhaps he was getting radiotherapy or chemotherapy

it was only when the sun printed those photos that i can remember accepting that he was dying

He's dead guys, and nothing will bring back his ghost. Just let the morbid types discuss things on their own, eh? If you see a thread titled 'FREDDIE'S ILLNESS OMG', just don't click it?

I'm sure his ghost is angry with you now.

Actually, someone raised an interesting point earlier about when he SOUNDED the most ill.

Funny thing is, Mother Love was his last vocal performance, but if I didn't know better I'd have thought he sounded the most ill on (and therefore would've said that the last track was) You Don't Fool Me. He just doesn't sound too healthy, and it sounds a bit 'sampled' (what with the repeated lyrics and stuff).

But yeah, the ghost is hunting you all down. Oooooohhh.....

Can you tell me where this documentary is?
That time will come, one day you'll see, when we can all be friends.

Do you have GVHII. Scandals on there. I was just gonna say if you don't have it it's only £12.99 at HMV.

I believe Freddie's illness was most noticeable at the ITV Awards in 1990 when they received the award for the best band of the '80s. He was dressed in a light blue suit and he looked very thin. Brian did most of the talking that night.

And the sun posted a picture of him in a car after the party that night, without makeup, and he was thin, bony and discoloured.

That's when I was completely overwhelmed at how ill he looked. That was probably the worst. Amazingly as bad as he looked in several of the last videos, including "These Are The days Of Our Lives", I didn't think he looked as bad as at the awards, I think because maybe he was wearing alot of makeup in the videos and the video directors maybe were able to filter and soften the lighting.

But at the ITV Awards, it was live and so the live setting and bright stage lighting showed the worst.

But wasn't it brave of Freddie to make that public appearance anyhow, knowing that the public might and did in fact notice his illness via his appearance...so that he could accept his much deserved award and be with his bandmates. I'm sure that award must have meant the world to him as all awards honoring he & Queen's music from their music peers were. And in the last year or so of his life, I'm sure having his music, Queen's music, and their/his work, being honored with awards such as the ITV, meant all that much more and helped to give him strength and courage & faith to keep him going, since to Freddie, his music and work were everything.

Well, I think he'd look considerably worse on November 25th! ;-)

My opinion is that he looked far worse on (let's say) December 1st...
