Not really because it does suck. They took a chance, did something bold, but it failed. Most bands could never recover from back to back flops like Flash Gordon and Hot Space.

i agree with most of what you said
but Flash Gordon (OST) was not a real queen album
- they weren't songs - they were musical accompanyment to the film
and even at that it still made the top10 in the album charts and was in there for 15 weeks

but HS - as oyu said - really did suck - bigtime!

I actually prefer Hot Space to one of the big fan favorites... I won't say what one though.
"Elton John and I became really good friends. I don't mean 'good friends' in that sense. I just mean we slept together." -Billy Joel
To reply to Brenski (I don't know how to quote on this site): I agree Flash wasn't a real Queen album, but it was released as such. I was thinking about it the other day and how before the days of the internet, radio was really the only way to be exposed to new material. Just imagine how disappointed you'd be if you excitedly bought the new Queen album only to find there was really only 2 "songs" on it. It was totally misleading to the fans to make that album an offical release and they were lucky that true Queen fans are so loyal. Those 2 albums could have killed them and in one major market (North America) it did until Wayne's World came along.

Yeah. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but I don't think they should try to press them on others.

,

I absolutelly agree!

I'M HUGE HOT SPACE FAN!

"hot... space... let's go!" :)
two things to note here:-
1. the cover of Flash Gordon clearly says

FLASH GORDON - original soundtrack music by queen
it doesn't say QUEEN - FLASH GORDON
look at the other album covers BAND NAME = BIG LETTERS or top of cover - title = underneath or smaller lettering
FLASH is the opposite - TITLE in big letters - queen in litlle letters

2. - and i know there are exceptions - but generally speaking - the vast majority of queen fans would not put HS in their top 3

and as for NON_QUEEN fans - how many are even aware of HS - let alone even like it?

I like Hot Space. Its something differnet. I'm not too keen on Body Language but i like all the other tracks. It's a pretty cool album.

but that isn't what i just said

i said how many would put it in their top 3 queen albums? - not many
if you put Hs above queenII, queen, sha, anato, adatr, notw then you've obviously heard something that the vast majority of queen fans haven't - and most of the owrld ignored - for that matter

any comments yet on the titling of the FLASH cover?

Yeah, that's why WE THE FREE PEOPLE OF EUROPE are making fun of Americans every day.

"Flash Gordon" may be shitty movie, but it has one of the best soundtracks ever. I guess you guys are so "rock'n'roll" that you can't appreciate something different.
I like hot space! Back chat is cool! Under Pressure is cool! Las Palabras De Amor is cool! Body Language is cool! Staying Power is cool! The only track i skip is Cool Cat!

"but that isn't what i just said"

Why does what he says have to be anything to do with what you've just said? It's not like he quoted you or anything...

Anyway, I like Body Language. I like the whole of Hot Space. Whatever you say about it, it beats the hell out of most modern music, even if it doesn't compare with other Queen albums.
I will go on to the end. I will fight in France, I will fight on the seas and oceans, I will fight with growing confidence and growing strenght in the air! I will defend Hot Space, whatever the cost may be... I will fight on the beaches, I will fight on the landing grounds, I will fight in the fields and in the streets. I will fight in the hills... I will never surender!
Hot Space was an obvious direction after the success of something like 'Another One Bites the Dust', and its funkier sound.
It IS their weakest release during the bands lifetime, but it has some good tracks; i really like Cool Cat(nice rhythm guitar from Brian).
It's easy with hindsight to say it was a wrong move, but it probably was; it alienated a lot of fans.
Didn't Roger recently say it was shit?
