Freddie's Songwriting Versus the rest of Queen

Ok. All of us already know that Freddie was the most prolific and talented of the songwriters in Queen. His compositions were the most melodic, deeply complex, and went from intricate to epic.

But...what we are only just finding out through some recent Topics...leading to us to some NEW insight and CORRECTED information, is that alot of songs credited to Roger, Brian, John from the AKOM years on...is that they were in fact written BY FREDDIE, such as "Innuendo", (which I always had thought myself Freddie had written, then I was informed that I had thought incorrectly and that "Innuendo" was NOT written by Freddie...then I was incorrectly.."corrected", that Roger had written it...now I find out Freddie DID write it. Oh what a confused mess.

Anyhow...I love and respect the songwriting of all of Queen's members. One big favorite in my TOP 10 is "You're My Best Friend" by John, who always seems to get the shaft creatively by folks and Queen fans.

And Brian's music is stunning, "Las Palabres De Amor", "Who Wants To Live Forever", "Hero", etc. Roger's is well more pop oriented. Now I even hear the my favorite song TATDOOL, that Roger only wrote the lyrics...that Brian & John wrote the music.

Anyhow...now CORRECT information is CURRENTLY surfacing about who in fact did write what...and ...surprise, Freddie still wrote the BEST songs...even near death.

I just find it amazing and remarkable testament to Freddie's songwriting talents that in the realm of popular music, he definitely has his place as one of the top, most natural and gifted composers and to write a song of the epic scope of "Innuendo", ...

...while in the throes of such illness, and the subsequent debilitating pain, and I'm sure stress he endured while suffering from AIDS...truly shows how amazing he was and how far he could push himself artistically and how he could remain inspired, inspiring, and how resilillent he was.

....so whats the question?

So what does everyone think about the CORRECTED NEW information as to what songs on what records that Freddie wrote and how, and what Brian, John, & Roger wrote and how from the AKOM years on, and how that impacts what you felt about their songwriting for all the songs and records prior to AKOM, and each member's lifetime career spanning songwriting overall?

- Correction: what YOU are just finding out. The information has been around for years, and those of us who have been here for as many days as posts you've accumulated in your 31 days here already know this stuff.

And we're really only talking about a handful of songs here that had debatable authroship; of the ever-so-slightly more than 2 album's worth of material credited to Queen, the majority of the songs were easily and quickly identified with their writer.

And I don't know where you got the idea that Bri and John wrote the music for TATDOOL from.

The whole Innuendo album is full of hope, love for life, trust in God, energy, desire to live life to the full...What makes it even more special and more beautiful is that Freddie could write this kind of songs in spite of his health. And the songs he didn't write, like The Show Must Go On, he still sang in the most empathic way. He really must have felt that way, or he wouldn't have been able to sing those songs other Queen members wrote. So regardless of who wrote what (though I'm very curious about it), for me Innuendo is basically a Freddie album, though other Queen members contributed to it. The same applies to The Miracle.

Freddie was a hero for the way he faced his illness and death. It's so easy to be bold and flamboyant when you're healthy, powerful and at your very best. But only heroes can be just as brave in times of despair. There are many little big heroes in the world who are not famous but who fight similar battles every day. We cannot know them all. Fortunately we can know Freddie, we have his example and that can be enlightening. I think Pope John Paul II is another such example.

There's nothing to me that suggests Bri and John had a hand in the music, quite apart from the fact that I've never ever heard this mentioned anywhere.

To me, TATDOOL was always quite obviously a Roger song, as I saw strong similarities to Heaven For Everyone, and viewed it as a kind of sequel.

I don't think that writing process makes painful anyone even if you're dying

Have you ever noticed how many songs he wrote for AKOM? Without John? He wasn't dying man in those days.

Freddie did write alot of music and according to Brian, Freddie would set all write all his lyrics and spend LOTS of time on them as he cared for them very much. He would also however give all lead guitar parts to brian to write according to Freddie's chord progressions (which seems logical as being in a band thats pretty much how it is) and if Freddie didnt like it he would try something diffrent. Also for those who dont know lead can be solos or little fills and runs or tacets.

Sergey, I did check Sebastian's site but as far as I could tell there were only song writing details for songs for the oldest albums.

Thanks Sergey. I had actually read that already. I was hoping to find a list of the latest songs and relative writers. But it's all very interesting anyway.

John seems to be my favorite, he wrote the catchy tunes-AOBTD-IWTBF-YMBF
Brian the sweet rockers WWRY-TYMD-HTF-FBG
Roger hmmmm Radio gaga-AKOM-TATDOOL he seems to came on late

Freddie is of course my favorite. How can you deny LOML, BoRhap, Somebody to Love, Innuendo, Keep Passing The Open Windows, CLTCL, etc. and so on.

But after that, Roger is my 2nd favorite songwriter, seeing as he wrote AKOM, Radio Ga Ga, and of course my very favorite Queen song, TATDOOL.
I guess John comes in 2nd because John wrote one of my all time top 10 favorite songs..."You're My Best Friend" and just lots of good stuff.
Then Brian 4th (I love Hero, Las Palabras de Amor, Who wants To Live Forever).

So overall I guess I would say my favorite songwriters in this order...
Freddie 1st
Roger 2nd
John 3rd
Brian 4th
