Roger Taylor hints at U.S. Tour

In a magazine interview with Roger Taylor on Brian May website, there is reference to Queen playing the U.S. this fall...

Interviewer:
"Two shows in London, a European and US tour and now a show at Hyde Park in the summer, this Queen tour seems to have taken on a life of its own…"

Roger Taylor:
"Yes, very much so. It's been in the back of our minds to do something like this for a long time but Brian and I couldn't think of how to do it properly, so it kept being put on the back burner. Then with Paul [Rodgers] it all fell into place. He really was one of our benchmarks when we were starting out as Queen. I'm sure we played on a bill with his old band Free at the Albert Hall…"

Interviewer:
"Was Robbie Williams ever a serious contender to sing with Queen?"

Roger Taylor:
"We talked about maybe touring America with Robbie - and we were quite serious about it but circumstances didn't come together. He is very young, much younger than us anyway, but that didn't seem to be an issue. In retrospect, though, it wouldn't have been a good idea. It'll be interesting to see, but I think Robbie would have struggled in the States. He's very pop and very English, very cheekie chappie. Americans don't always get that, they like their rock."

Seems like Queen preferred Paul Rodgers to Robbie Williams in great part because Paul is much more accepted in the U.S.!

I myself expect them to tour the U.S., but only after a small rejuvenating break.

... and Brian expects a 7-8 week run in the States:

"The only thing that I'm worried about this tour is what it's going to do to my home life. Is it going to go back to those days of getting disconnected? I actually have a home life now and it's going to take some work… It's a seven-week tour in Europe, then maybe a little bit in the summer, and then I would guess seven or eight weeks in the States in the Autumn. That's the plan… Of course, America's a very serious thing in terms of time spent, because you can't nip back home from the States."

I know what you mean... Maybe I am just getting old, but people push and shove and act like idiots at any kind of show now. We went to a festival in Charlotte a couple of years ago strictly to see the Foo Fighters. I waited pretty much all day to be front and center. Well..turns out we had to move about 3/4 of the way into the show to avoid being killed..not to mention some freaky skinhead behind us was punching people in the back..girls included. Scary.. I should have known better though because people had been drinking for around 8 hours straight, and the band before the Foos was The Transplants, who btw have Travis from GOOD CHARLOTTE in the group!
Last year on my birthday we went to see the Darkness...front and center again...again had to move. Not nearly as violent, but the shoving was absurd. At least the 2 upcoming shows we are going to aren't general admission...cause I can imagine there would be more of the same.. Green Day later this month and Velvet Revolver in May..WOO HOO!

Now..back to the topic at hand..QUEEN mosh pit..;-D
