Where does it say that proceeds from the tracks are going to charity. I see that it says that for the CD but I don't see that written anywhere for the tracks. Maybe I missed that. Either way $1.85 for a track is too expensive.

CAn anybody tell me why we are supposed to buy the CD? I am using as much brain energy as possible but I cannot understand why I should buy one from QP...

Of course you can burn them on regular CDRs, so you don't have to buy the official one.

But if you buy the official one your CDR looks more professional;P

I think you woefully missed the point. You will see INVERTED COMMAS around the word full. I will quote: "Brian's Brixton were "full" shows".

This means that I KNOW about the "missing" bits - but, but for all intents and purposes they are as near as complete as damn-it!

What the REAL point of the thread was, I have loads of bootlegs I never listen to because they are crap. There are also "FULL" Brixton bootlegs if you want to chase them. But, realistically speaking, the only ones I need, and the only ones I really listen to are the official release, because - they are worth it.

The Queen + Paul Rodgers stuff will follow the same pattern. EVERY show will be audience bootlegged. These crap sounding releases will end up on e-bay and some will be happy.

Others will worry, lose sleep and curse the fact they own recordings from EVERY performence - except ONE - and that one somehow becomes a Holy Grail, and when they do eventually track it down it will sound like the band are performing in a Rice Crispy bowl in the middle of an aerodrome.

For me, relax. Forget all that bull... A few carefully selected QUALITY products, (in my mind) beats quantity everday. There will be a "COMPLETE" DVD/CD (notice those inverted commas again), and some additional downloads, and if this gives me a reasonable flavour of the tour, then I am as happy as pigs again.

If however, some quality bootleg comes along (eg a FM broadcast) then ofcourse I would be interested, but untill then, these are the best available recordings so far, and as such, I think they are fine.

Agreed. I'm willing to bet that at least one show will be recorded by someone who generates something BETTER than FM-standard, and probably will match these downloads.

Mr. S/ PG: I hope you are both correct, and if you are, then I would also hope to be one of the first in the queue, but I think you both know by now that I was talking in generalisations - rather than absolutes.

But then again, I think my general point still stands - in that personally I would prefer a handful of good bootlegs (regardless of source)- than a plethora of poorly sounding recordings.

I goes without saying that I would like to see a few good bootlegs surface either during or after the tour - and that there are enough copies for all of us!

They're 99p right? Where I live that comes out as $2.60 a track. Assuming you can fit on 15 tracks on the CD (but given the songs lengths it'll likely be less), that comes out at $39 exact for a full CD of material. Now, depending on where you go you can get a new single disc release CD for $29 - $35, most of which barely break the 45 minute mark it seems these days. Add less than $1 for a CDR (you don't have to get the official CDR), and you've got a passable deal in my opinion.

Media Player 9 is available for Mac; I'd be extremely surprised if it's not compatible with the DRM - http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx. Download it and try using one of the 30 second clips. Don't get me wrong, I'm an XP user but still would've prefered iTunes to be used too. It owns Media Player with one hand behind it's back. You can still use them on the iPod, just burn them and rerip them.

I get your point... i agree with you. But.. Martin is right also. Some bootleggers have really great equipment: new generation minidisc recorder+omnidirectional stereo microphones: they record it the way you hear it. + battery packs.
Costs you 500 dollar and gives you at least VG+ recordings. Most of them are even EX. U2 and R.E.M. bootlegs i've heared which are recorded with this equipment are very very enjoyable to hear.

So I have every right to complain. They don't work on Mac- PERIOD. I can't rerip or burn anything because I simply cannot DOWNLOAD anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't get your math. 99p = $1.85 USD

15 x $1.85 = $27.75 USD

Average price of a CD purchased from the store is $9.99 = $13.99 USD.

Hardly a good deal.

Hmm... I have a 2nd hand £35 minidisc recorder + 2 £10 mics plugged into a £10 microphone battery pass-through (juice booster off ebay) and the sound/quality is amazing. It doesn't cost much to record this kind of stuff. It all comes down to the bootlegger's understanding of how to use their equipment!
I walked into a small concert with the above equipment and forgot to set levels and most of the loud parts are distorted. My bad. But the quiet parts sounded amazing. I'm not doing anything that Joe Bloggs couldn't. It really costs peanuts to get great results these days.
