Why should I be objective about how 'groundbreaking' and 'genius' Hot Space was - I paid my money to be entertained by my favourite ROCK band and was bitterly disappointed, end of story.
Last weekend I moved to Sheffield, South Yorkshire and (entirely my own fault, btw) all my cd's, dvd's, svcd's, bootlegs, you name it, were stolen. Not just Queen, but my Rush collection, Dream Theater, Floyd and so on....so, I have to go out and get them all again. Hot Space will not be on my shopping list.

Ir certainly wasn't golden. People said to me at the time that the album could have been anybody and lacked didn't have much of the "Queen" style about it.

Totally disagree...if anything Queen reached their Pinnacle with Innuendo..as good if not better than ANATO. Innuendo showcased their depth as lyricists, their evolution, maturity, and growth as songwriters, conceptualists, musicians, artists...I also LOVE AKOM, The Works.
Everything they did was golden...

imo - queen II was the finest album they made, innuendo was good but not great
and please don't start on AKOM and the works - they are only marginally less bad than Hot Space - all three are crammed full of 80s synths, and non-instument-instumentation - pap!

If you only like 70s music, then change you favorite band and become a Led Zeppelin fan! By the way, Queen II isn`t their finest album. Its good but it pales completely against A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races. These two are REALLY their finest hour. If you prefer Queen II, then you are really only a desperate heavy metal fan.

Queen II is great. It's right up there with ANATO - it is not heavy metal by any means. It certainly rocks. It could be called progressive but that is no bad thing.
Freddie's got stuck in a rut later on when he could only right about falling in and out of love - how boring.
Queen II was Freddie at his lyrical best painting a picture of a landscape full of faeries, ogres and black queens.
It is the essence of what the band originally intended Queen to be before commercial pressures compromised this style.
