This is from Brian's wesbite. Sounds like they are cancelling the memorial plaque honoring Freddie at his home. What happened? I am most upset about this.

Freddie should have it. It's nothing wrong. Stamps...a Freddie Mercury Award...a Statue...there's nothing wrong.

I don't think this was a 'cancellation' of the plaque, but just a case of someone in the press getting the wrong end of the stick.
The idea for a Freddie plaque was only ever mooted, never actually rubber-stamped.

I think Brian jumped the gun a bit too, because he posted the original press release on his website as well, confirming the plaque for Freddie and that arrangements were already being made to invite Brian, Roger, John, even Paul Rodgers, music press and artists to the official ceremony.
Then Brian posted this "cancellation" or what have you.
I think maybe the neighbors or homeowners in the area wren't keen about all of the constant tourists that would flood through there and squawked about it, as is the case when this kind of thing is proposed for many deceased celebrities in a residential area, and so The Heritage Foundation pulled the plug on the idea.
What would be nice...would be to erect the plaque in a public, non residential area...such as maybe Ealing College where Freddfie first made music in London and studied art school and music and wound up crossing paths...with Brian & Roger at their college, or whereever Freddie played his first gig with Queen or one of his earlist bands, or one of Queen's London Recording studios...that would avoid any residents complaining about tourists traffic, etc.
I do NOT think they should give up on the idea, just move the plaque's location to another, better suited venue...
Arlene of course I CARE!!! He deserves this and so much more. I agree it would be best if it was in a place more within reach, and not a residential area.

It is surprising that this should be even considered as the rules are that the person being so honoured must have been dead for at least 25 years, so this would be very premature in Feddie's case, and people would really not expect it to happen for a good long time.

I support the idea 100% and it is an honor most suited to Freddie's artistry, landmark contributions, and as The Heritage Foundation's President Rick Wakeman, most wonderfully noted "The foundation, felt Mercury's legendary songs, performances, legacy and valiant battle with AIDS made him deserving of the honour."

Why..well Rick Wakeman is the PRESIDENT of The Heritage Foundation and Wakeman was the person directly responsible for ALREADY APPROVING Freddie for this memorial plaque.
Now Rick Wakeman, being the PRESIDENT...OBVIOUSLY would know the RULES that make a person eligible for this plaque. If the rules are that a deceased person has to be dead 25 years...why would Wakeman even consider, much less GO AHEAD AND APPROVE FREDDIE???????????
This sounds awful fishy and a Spin Doctor answer to me.
This ALL was Already APPROVED by Rick Wakeman and The Heritage Foundation, Brian ALREADY posted THAT Press Release to that affect on Brian's website, it was released in a press anouncemant to the press....NOT that Freddie was nominated, but that Freddie was APPROVED..with no mention of eligibility requirements. Plans were already made to INVITE Brian, Roger, John, even paul Rodgers, the press, fans, other music artists.
Something about this answer from Jen does NOT hold water at all....and is awful fishy....
