Cancellation of Freddie's Memorial Plaque?

From English Heritage site:

In order to be eligible for a plaque, a figure must:

Have been dead for 20 years, or have passed the centenary of their birth, whichever is the earlier
Nominated figures must also meet one or more of the following criteria:

Be considered eminent by a majority of members of their own profession or calling
Have made an important positive contribution to human welfare or happiness
Be recognisable to the well-informed passer-by
Deserve national recognition
Have resided in a locality for a significant period, in time or importance, within their life and work
In the case of foreigners or overseas visitors, candidates should:

Be of international reputation or significant standing in their own country
It should also be noted that:

Plaques can only be erected on the actual building inhabited by the nominated figure, not the site where the building once stood. However, consideration may be given in cases where reconstructed buildings present an exact facsimile frontage on the identical site
Buildings marked with plaques must be visible from the public highway
Unless a case is deemed exceptional, each figure may not be commemorated with more than two plaques nationwide
In London, suggestions will not be considered for figures already commemorated by a plaque erected by the Royal Society of Arts, the London County Council, the Greater London Council or English Heritage
Proposals will not be considered for the commemoration of individuals still living
Proposals will be considered for the commemoration of sites of special historical interest
A building shall not be marked solely because it figures in a work of fiction
Although most plaques are erected on the former residences of famous people, the erection of plaques on blocks of flats is not excluded, nor are significant places of work
Unless a case is deemed exceptional, plaques shall not be erected on educational buildings or Inns of Court
The City of London and Whitehall are ruled out for consideration under the blue plaques scheme

Well why does the press release say Heritage Foundation President Rick Wakeman already approved it and was inviting everybody....who jumped the gun on this...or...did Wakeman "waive" some of the eligilbility requirements...which is indeed possible?

Like when Queen Elizabeth "knighted" Bob Geldof who is not a British citizen, he is from Ireland, but she "waived" the rules because sometimes a person's contributions are SO WORTHY and SIGNIFICANT...that you do waive rules.

Well. waive some of the "bleeping" rules while Freddie's memory is fresh in our hearts and minds...and his contributions are SO WORTHY, and go ahead with this plaque. If I had Wakeman's address I would write/email him.

By the way I think we at QZ SHOULD write and pettion Wakeman and the Foundation on this.

I just emailed a letter to David Graham and Rick Wakeman about this and trying to facilitate this happening NOW for Freddie.

FYI...Kenny Everett, the Capitol One Radio DJ who championed Queen & Freddie, has a plaque (who died AFTER Freddie)!!!! Less than 25 years!!!!

Also included are Peter Sellers, John Lennon, and Buddy Holly who is from Lubbock, Texas United States....so I'm sure Freddie fits any criteria needed.

I really don't get too worked up about things beyond my control. People are people - they make mistakes. If he doesn't get it now, I'm sure he'll get it in a few years' time.

Lester, I used to have patience...not to go weird on you, but a few years ago on a quiet Sunday morning 8:00 am I was on my way to work, driving down a residential road about 20 miles per hour...

next thing I know I am waking up from being unconscious, my car is flipped over/upside down and I'm trapped inside with firefighters trying to cut me out...cause some 80 year old idiot who should no longer have had a driver's license, hit my car and me head on. My car was totalled...worse yet...

I nearly died that day...Since then...

I have NO patience, for Idiots,...

...and time....and life...as you can see..is precious and too damn short and fleeting.

And this is important to me and means alot to me.

People need to get their wires uncrossed and need to get on the stick...there are 2 ENTIRELY DIFFERENT Heritage Organizations. And no one is corresponding with THE CORRECT one, but they are corresponding with the INCORRECT one.

I SENT/emailed a letter to the Chairman today of the CORRECT Heritage Organization. QZ please read that info on page 1 of this topic and get involved.

I didn't mix them up - I had no idea this other Heritage Foundation existed!

Arlene, I agree that life is short and you should make the best of the time you have. I doubt that campaigning for a plaque on some house in wherever is a valuable cause on which to spend your precious lifetime. Also, as a journalist you should keep some emotional distance to the subject of your research, I am sure you agree.

However, it's your choice how many emails you send about this issue but please do not insult Jen, who is a great person and donates so much of her time for Brian's website. She does not give "fishy" or "Spin Doctor" answers - she answers to the best of her knowledge and she really does not deserve to be criticised like this by you.

Here is my answer personally emailed to me from Mr. Ian Freeman of the CORRECT Heritage Foundation who promptly answered my email to The Correct Heritage Foundation this morning 4/18/2005...and Freddie's plaque looks like it is approved after all.

I think that if you re-read Brian May's website item, you'll see that it says
"Enquiring whether any truth that a plaque will be installed *at Freddie's
teenage home*..." This is the house in Feltham, and has since proved not to be
possible.

In fact, the plan is now to locate the plaque elsewhere, probably on his home
in London. We are currently talking to Brian and Roger Taylor and hope to be
able to proceed with a plaque shortly.
