To all those travelling to English gigs- QUEENZONE meetings?

C'mon- let's keep the thread alive! There may be some valuable info, just like from DragonOnMyBack- thanx!!!
What about Sheffield???

I have only lived in Sheffield for 2 weeks so I haven't got a clue. I'll drive over and take a look though.

Being from Manchester, I can confirm that Hard Rock Cafe and Tiger Tiger are but 5 minutes walking distance at the very most to the MEN arena. Both of these bar's are in the "Printworks" complex, which involves a cinema, and bars and restaurants. There is a Weatherspoon's bar in the complex for cheaper drinks.

Also within close walking distance are Sinclair's Oyster Bar (traditional English pub) and The Mitre. These two places have large outside area's to enjoy your drink, but limited space inside.

I'd suggest the Printworks for a large meet up.

Having travelled across to Sheffield for many an ice hockey game at the arena, I do know that there is a bar across the road from the arena. Also not far from the arena is a big entertainment park as such. With a cinema and bowling ally. I can't recall the name, but I do know that there are a few bar's and eating venues around that place.

Also down the road from the arena itself are a couple of restaurant/pubs which could be used.

D'OH! I responded to the wrong post--meant to respond to the Manchester one. Let's try this again.

Thanks for the info Leia. The Mitre's a hotel, right? Do you mean the hotel bar or is there also a bar called The Mitre?

I've never really needed to use a hotel in Manchester, so I don't know how good it is. But certainly that building has a bar. Just checking elsewhere, The Mitre is next door to the following three pubs, which I appologise for mentioning earlier. The Old Wellington, Sincliar's (I mentioned that one) and The Crown and Anchor. Sinclairs and The Old Wellington are built ajoining each other, with a nice size outdoor drinking area.

The areana is just over 250 meters away from each of these bars, with Tiger Tiger the same. The Crown and Anchor, is a Joseph Holts pub. Now a word of warning for anyone who doesn't normally drink beer or if so, has a rich taste. Holt's beer is very much a local brew, and opinion is split in Manchester over the quality of there beers, so be warned. Though one thing is for sure, the Holt's beer is cheaper than most others, cheap and nasty some people would say. This pub is around 20 yards away from the Mitre.

The entertainment park is called Valley Centertainment and apart from UGC and the Hollywood Bowl has Frankie & Benny's, Boardwalk (personal recommendation - excellent place; many a Happy New Year spent there in recent years), Burger King, Old Orleans, Bitz 'n' Pizza and, if it's still the same, Arbuckles, plus the chav paradise that is Brannigans. There's also the Arena Square pub on the main traffic island/junction nearby, the Noose and Gibbet pub on the main road opposite the Arena and a Pizza Hut and MacDonalds on the Meadowhall Retail Park, the Carbrook Hall pub (the most haunted pub in Sheffield) and The Stumble Inn ("no ghosts, just spirits") a bit further back towards the M1. And, of course, the Meadowhall Shopping Complex itself.

That lot should be enough for anyone. If your local Sheffield tour guide can be of any further assistance, let me know ;o)

I spoke with the manager of the HRC in Manchester and they're expecting about 20 or so of us in the bar in the afternoon/early evening on the 4th.
