It seems that everyday, more and more IDIOTS are leeching from this site. To make matters worse, they crow with the loudest of voices - from the top of highest steeple, in clothes of the brightest colours. So for those hard of thinking - let me spell it out.
Popular music download sites like Napster and EZT were SHUT DOWN because they went TOO far, and began shifting more and more official units - and therefore because they drew attention to themselves, eventually, broke the "camel's back" as it were.
Now, it is NO secret to Jim Beech, Brian May, Roger Taylor or anyone else in the Queen world, that THIS site is RENOUNED for providing links to Queen downloads. I guess as long as it sticks to concerts, interviews, radio shows etc, no one really bothers, but, as soon as it starts eating into those profits, you bet your mortgage they WILL close Queenzone without batting an eyelid.
This is NOT a philosophical argument - or open to debate (ie: CD's are too expensive, Queen are millionaires, or the 7" has been deleted) - I leave that to other threads.
This IS about keeping Queenzone OPEN, and to do so, even Queenzone has to play within the rules, and those simple rules are: "NO OFFICIAL DOWNLOADS".
It really is a rule we flaunt at our OWN peril. Now I realise that to the leechers this means sweet F.A. - but to the rest of us it means keeping the BEST Queen site alive. End of Story.
I really hate saying, "told you so..."

How about we start by getting Richard to report this inbred halfbreed (the tosser known as "digitalizado" that is) by supplying them with his/her email and IP address to QP for "sharing" that version of "Live Aid" even if it is in shite Real Media format? I know that might seem a bit extreme but it may be the only way that idiots like this will sit up and finally take notice.
Its like you say, John. These idiots will get this site shut down - something I hope WONT happen

I hope that wont happen either
I don't think there is much reason for panic as long as official material is not shared through Queenzone. When someone puts a link to a private website, Yousendit.com or ebay to advertise some official material, this cannot be blamed on Queenzone.
Surely, Richard will never "report" any user IPs or other user details to anybody, he is not the internet police - what an absurd idea. However, I sent Richard a message asking him what he thinks about the concern some users here have about a potential danger for the website. He has run this site for so long that I am sure he knows what he is doing.

Some moderators would be a good idea, but they have to be online often to check for official material.
I'm currently working on some things, mayb I can help with the moderating stuff... Just gimme a call :)

I think we are getting to the only realistic solution. This site needs to have a team of moderators. Richard no doubt is a busy boy, and even if he wasn't :), there's no way one person can effectively moderate a site. We'd need 5-10 mods I believe, spread around the globe to ensure 24 hour a day vigilance.
That way, shared official material (links there to) could be simply deleted before anyone gets to use them. You have to keep a site like this clean, or else, as John says, he will end up saying "I told you so".
In the end of course it's up to Richard what he thinks is the best way forward, but I'm sure he would be equally concerned about keeping this site alive.

It is indeed a matter of concern that, while the world is getting tighter on downloads, the "dangerousness" of downloads in Queenzone, or related to this site, is also growing.

Actually, that isn't true. EZT posted the letter they received from the lawyers, and in it it stated that they have a problem with any site that hosts or points links to protected material. In their minds, telling someone where to get the files is the same as hosting them on your server.
Popular music download sites like Napster and EZT were SHUT DOWN because they went TOO far, and began shifting more and more official units - and therefore because they drew attention to themselves, eventually, broke the "camel's back" as it were.
Making a poor example with EZT there...
EZT was not shut down due to official material, their ISP received threats to shut them down or else... EZT never allowed official material in the first place including Out Of Print stuff nor did they really make any exceptions, all torrents were moderated by an active moderation team. They certainly never went too far or shifted official units. Get your facts straight.
Consequently NIRVANA was added to the forbidden artist/band list when EZT re-emerged as Dimeadozen. Many believe the legal representation behind the band (whoever owns rights anyway) made the threats and it was not for official material but over illegal digital distribution of copyright material = live bootlegs
Later on Metallica also has been added to the list. Even though Metallica is taper friendly, they do not allow digital distribution of their shows.
Did I have a point? Oh yes, official material had nothing to do with EZT. It's not needed, because distribution of bootlegs of live shows is illegal. No matter how "unreleased" it is. The songs performed are still under copyright as are any performances by the artist.
So basicly QZ can't really be saved if EMI/QP decide to get nasty, no matter how much the shared material is unofficial and unavailable. Right now they just turn the blind eye. And this "turning the blind eye" is the ONLY reason live bootlegs can exist and be distributed so freely (except in my fascist country...). Most artists simply don't care and those who do, will do something about it.
Not acceptable bands and artists at Dime.

You have a point, but I think that behind John's attitude is the idea that *if* we keep this place free of official material, there is a much greater chance that the powers that be *will be* prepared to turn a blind eye to bootleg trading, irregardless of its technical illegality.

My suggestion re the "report" someone was just that - a suggestion. Yes it is extreme. And the reason why I said that was purely because of what John said :-
"Now, it is NO secret to Jim Beech, Brian May, Roger Taylor or anyone else in the Queen world, that THIS site is RENOUNED for providing links to Queen downloads. I guess as long as it sticks to concerts, interviews, radio shows etc, no one really bothers, but, as soon as it starts eating into those profits, you bet your mortgage they WILL close Queenzone without batting an eyelid."
I happen to agree that this is an all to real possibility and that they "may" just take QZ down the same legal route suffered by Napster, EZT (or Dimeadozen as it is now known) et al. Something that Richard has stated before (on the "Winters Tale" torrent thread) that he could ill afford to do.
I am not downplaying the issue but QP do not own the world, they cannot "shut down" a website. Sure they can cause a lot of trouble and forbid the sharing of music. I agree that it's much better to ensure that no officially available material is shared. Richard has posted a thread telling the QZ members that no officially released material can be shared or advertised on this forum. So please, let's all respect this rule.
I think that the majority of activities here on Queenzone.com are pretty innocent. the distribution of bootlegged items for free.
however, if a legal notice was served, etc, there wouldn't be anything i could do about it. I am hardly going to to spend lots of money in the courts.
Therefore, it is best that we are sensible and not draw any unnecessary attention.

I am no saint, but, I think it is a matter of record that I love this place. I think it is also a matter of record, that I too have been taking full advantage of the "Queen + Paul Rodgers" Tour downloads. I think it is also fair to say that, I am willing to host such files and distribute this "wealth" among other genuine fans - so I plead "guilty" just as much as the next person.
However, after having "Live Aid" removed just the week or two before, up it pops yet again - without any respect for the artists, the charity - or the wishes of the clients of the this room.

As aforementioned, I am not really interested in philosophy, but as I also said in the related link: "Every stolen track = ANOTHER dead child."

I AGREE with both these guys. Surely, the idea of the British army disposing of RED uniforms - was that they made easier targets - therefore it was a matter of war evolution when camoflague was adopted.
Therfore: I am NOT saying "Stop ALL downloads" just "Stop wearing red jackets" as it were!!!

Surely it's the only good thing for QZ not letting any official material here.
On the other side, I think it's better for Queen (or any band) to have site, about which they know, all shared material is non official and let it be.
1) they maybe understand, sometimes such unofficial material could be a good advertisement for a new official CD and DVD (fow newbies and not only for them)
2) if they stop site, which is loyal to them, they won't stop sharing material on the whole internet anyway, and, after such step, it could be even worse than it is (about new servers they won't know anything).
And EZT is really good example, that it's possible to shut down even the server, where isn't anything official, but only copyrighted.
But, agree, OFFICIAL material never should be here. This could be quick way to the hell with QZ.
