What's your thinking there Elessar? QOL is hard core against ANY links to ANY downloads, official or otherwise. As you yourself know, even hints can be edited and removed. (did you like the dimeadozen one ? :))
How then would QOL fall, when it is the official channel of the band? Brian might make a big noise about not reading any of it and not paying it any attention, but these forums provide invaluable feedback to the band, and clearly they would be idiots not to have someone paying a little bit of notice to what people were saying.
Half the battle in marketing / sales is having good intelligence. With QOL, the band has excellent intelligence as to what the fans are thinking, what they want. Why would they ever shoot themselves in the marketing foot by closing the place down? Over a few hints? I don't get your line of thinking.
Popular music download sites like Napster and EZT were SHUT DOWN because they went TOO far, and began shifting more and more official units - and therefore because they drew attention to themselves, eventually, broke the "camel's back" as it were.
Making a poor example with EZT there...
EZT was not shut down due to official material, their ISP received threats to shut them down or else... EZT never allowed official material in the first place including Out Of Print stuff nor did they really make any exceptions, all torrents were moderated by an active moderation team. They certainly never went too far or shifted official units. Get your facts straight.
Consequently NIRVANA was added to the forbidden artist/band list when EZT re-emerged as Dimeadozen. Many believe the legal representation behind the band (whoever owns rights anyway) made the threats and it was not for official material but over illegal digital distribution of copyright material = live bootlegs
Actually, it was supposedly unreleased DVD footage of Nirvana at a festival that was the problem. The lawyers sent a letter to the company that owns EZT's servers and threatened a lawsuit. The owners of the servers paniced and made EZT shut down before the EZT people had even seen the letter.
This just goes to show that no matter how dilligent you are, if something from the gray area between official and unofficial is allowed, it might lead to trouble. Therefore, a good rule would be "when in doubt, rule it out."

Richard no doubt is a busy boy, and even if he wasn't :), there's no way one person can effectively moderate a site. We'd need 5-10 mods I believe, spread around the globe to ensure 24 hour a day vigilance.
That way, shared official material (links there to) could be simply deleted before anyone gets to use them. You have to keep a site like this clean, or else, as John says, he will end up saying "I told you so".
In the end of course it's up to Richard what he thinks is the best way forward, but I'm sure he would be equally concerned about keeping this site alive.
So, since 2005 we're having the same problem? My god.
Let's close John S Stuart because he didn't do anything good for us.

Sharing music knowledge and BBC sessions immediately comes to mind.

Don't feed the troll - logic is futile.
His next post will be calling you and/or I a troll in response.
He(rolllover)'s surely going to say:
"I dont listen thoses BBC shitts cause are bad and i dont liike it"
And about the music knowledge:
" I dont give a fuck "
Stop caring about that user, you're not going to make him realise the obvious. He realise the obvious, but it's just there molesting.

Wonkers
You see?
Period.
Period.

No sunshine...you've spelled that incorrectly. But, if you like the idea of it so much, you can reach up to your head (where you'll find the necessary apparatus) and give it a good tug. You might even get some decent hair gel out of it !!
Why bother responding to nonsense?
