We are ranking songs from each album from our favorite to our least favorite...

In this topic, we will be ranking NEWS OF THE WORLD.

Here's how my list go's:

1) We are the champions
2) Spread your wings
3) My Melancholy Blues
4) Its Late
5) We will Rock you
6) Fight From the Inside
7) Sleeping in the Sidewalk (would like this better if Freddie would have sang it..or even Roger.. I don't care for Brian as a lead vocalist)
8) Sheer Heart Attack
9) Get Down Make Love
10) All Dead, All dead
11) Who needs you

NEWS OF TE WORLD is a strange album for me...it contains some of my favorite Queen songs there is, Champions, Wings, Melancholy Blues....

but it also has what I feel are some of their weakest songs.

In my opinion, if anyone in this band is going to sing lead on a song besides Fred, it obviously should be Roger.

I love Roger's "Fight from the inside", and I think it fit his voice perfect.

But 2 points-
1) I don't think any Queen album should feature Brian singing lead more than Roger....
2) I would have like the 2 tracks that Brian sang (All dead, all dead, and Sleeping on the sidewalk) much better had Fred sang them.

I disagree with Scott's comments on brian's singing. All Dead All Dead should be sung by Brian. It needs a very soft, quiet voice. And Sidewalk is great to. I think Brian does a great job on it. Freddie would aswell but I don't mind.

1. Spread Your Wings
2. It's Late
3. My Melancholy Blues
4. We Are The Champions
5. Sheer Heart Attack
6. We Will Rock You

Lord-

Its ok to disagree with me :->
And I appreciate the honesty.

To me, Brian has a very "background vocals" type voice to me...

Brian singing the beginning of "Who wants to live forever", and his part in "I want it all" are perfect.... but I am not much for Brian singing a whole song.

One of my faves. The first album where they made a conscious desicion to simplify things a bit and I think they did a wonderful job. Brings to me a lot of memories of my youth. I saw this concert when I was 7 years old.

1. It's Late
2. Spread Your Wings(Deacon's best tune)
3. All Dead All Dead(Brian's best song that he sings IMO. Beautiful tune. Especially that middle section. Chills!)
4. Sleeping On The Sidewalk
5. My Meloncholy Blues
6. Fight From The Inside
7. Get Down Make Love(Don't know why this one is slagged so much.Great song to test your stereo's fidelity)
8. Sheer Heart Attack
9. We Are The Champions
10. Who Needs You
11. We Will Rock You

Now 9 and 11 would've been higher if I weren't so burnt out on them.

Brian's voice suits some songs perfectly.. Freddie's powerful voice would be complete overkill on Someday Oneday or She Makes Me. And I don't like the live '39 with Freddie singing nearly as much as the album version. Also, Brian's naive, vunerable voice suited the theme of Too Much Love perfectly (all that I'm so confused my, life's a tangled mess boo hoo stuff).. Freddie just sounds too confident on that track.

My list anyway-

1. Spread Your Wings
2. It's late
3. Fight From the Inside
4. Who Needs You?
5. Sheer Heart Attack
6. We Will Rock You
7. We Are the Champions.
8. Sleeping on the sidewalk
9. All Dead, All Dead
10. My Melancholy Blues
11. Get Down Make Love

like a lot of people, I probably only rank the singles low because I'm bored of them

I heard WATC too many times, sorry. I really love very underrated tracks like Late, Get down... or Fight From The Inside. Different album, but I love it- for being raw, to the point... Some great moments are here- the only track that doesn't do this to me is WNY- sorry. nice, but nothing special (IMO!). Oh- and I prefer BBC versions- all 4 tracks sound better than album cuts! Fast WWRY is one of the ebst thing they ever recorded, same goes for longer SYW...

My top three would be

Melancholy Blues
Spread Your Wings
Sleeping On The Side Walk

They're all so different, yet so obviously Queen. . .

I like Brian's voice, but to say he sings Too Much Love... better that Freddie, is absurd!

Nice and slow

Not that he sings it better, but that it sounds better. If that makes sense.
Tecnically speaking, Vai or Satriani play guitar much much better than Brian, but Brian's playing is, for many, far more enjoyable to listen to.
For this one particular track (Too much love), I think the less technically perfect approach is the best.
