I have read in many interviews, that prior to Live Aid, Bob Geldof was not really a fan of Queen. But...in the same interviews, he says that not only did he want Queen for Live Aid...it was ESSENTIAL to Bob, that Freddie be there too, (remember this was the time when all the members of Queen were into solo stuff with the "rumors" of them splitting up...mostly because they weren't getting on so well at that particular time..which they thankfully...got past)...but I digress.
Anyhow...Bob called Jim Beach and told Jim he specifically wanted Freddie to be there with Queen. Then after Live Aid...in all subsequent interviews, Bob has gone on to say that Queen were the BEST band of the day, they played the best, were the ONLY band to nail the Global Jukebox concept Bob wanted, Queen had the best sound...and Bob goes on to say that Queen stole the show..and that Freddie at the forefront could show the world how great he was as a showman...and could "ponce around in front of the world to WATC".
What I didn't know...up to these last few days...was that Bob THEN asked later on...for Freddie specifically...to participate in Fashion Aid as well with Jane Seymour. And if you've read my posts on that topic...I noticed that Bob and Freddie Truly enjoyed playing and kidding around with one another.
Also...correct me on this one if I'm wrong..but didn't Bob participate in the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992?
Remember that Geldof is a pretty tough character, always has been and still is..Geldof is a LOVELY caring person who organized Live Aid & Band Aid.. and gives of himself to charities...
But Geldof, who CURRENTLY is doing alot of interviews to promote the reissue of the Boomtown Rats entire back catalogue on CD right now...says himself that he is VERY hard to get along with, that he can come across as brusk, with an attitude, he cusses everybody out..and NOT kiddingly..he MEANS it! He loses his temper alot, and did at Live Aid.
For Geldof to play and run around like a little kid with Freddie is..quite adorable and shows...that that old Freddie charm must have gotten through to Bob and he really respected and liked Freddie...enough to keep asking Freddie to help in Bob's charities..and to run around like a little kid with Freddie and not get mad at Freddie when Freddie chased him around the stage at Fashion Aid. From what I can see, Bob is laughing his ass off with Freddie.
Anyway...what do you think? Sounds like Bob truly wound up genuinely liking as well as respecting Freddie.

Geldof DID indeed...before Geldof knew Freddie...that was part of what Geldof said to Jim Beach when he wanted Freddie to play WITH Queen at Live Aid. Geldof said to Jim Beach, "Tell the old faggot it will be the biggest show ever!" or something to that affect...
..which I personally think showed...then what a foulmouthed arrogant jerk Geldof was, and still can be as I said above. The first time I read that, my mouth dropped open. But...amazing..once Geldof met and got to REALLY know Freddie...he shut his yap, and changed his tune...real quick. Freddie had that affect on people...like I said...Geldof truly learned to like and respect Freddie.
Read the current interviews Geldof is doing in the UK press about the reissue of the Boomtown Rats catalogue on CD Right NOW...Geldof talks about Live Aid...Band Aid...and he says FAR worse things and words about the other artists too, which he also changed his tune on, when he personally worked with each artist and learned to get along with and repsect and like them. That's just Geldof. I don't like that he IS that way, but that's his way. Geldof even says that when he and Bono, who are now good friends, meet together with world leaders to discuss the world's problems...Bono says that he & Geldof are like Laurel & Hardy..and Bono always tells Geldof to keep his often abrasive mouth shut and says geldof and he are like Laurel & Hardy, and says to Geldof whenever Geldof says something rude or ignorant to a world leader, "This is another fine mess you've gotten us into"!

I'm 85% sure it was that song they wrote. Going by memory (as my only copy of the original broadcast video bit the dust a while ago) I remember Bob saying something to that effect just before he performed it at the show.

Be warned though, this is a severely catchy song, and when I was transferring my video to DVD, I ended up with it stuck in my head for days afterwards!

You know what's weird about that. I have ALWAYS read that Freddie INDEED DID CO-write "State Of Shock" with Michael Jackson (they just didn't record it together because they had a falling out), but....when you fact check the publishing writing credits for the song...it does NOT list Freddie at all. I always wondered if Freddie didn't copyright his part of the credit & publishing rights because he & Jackson had that falling out. But I have read...dozens of times that Freddie DID CO-WRITE that song with Jackson.
Kind of like the Queen songwriting credits we first read from th 1986 period on...that NOW we are learning is Incorrect...and who REALLY wrote what.
So I wonder if Freddie DID CO-WRITE "Too Late God"?
