Hi guys,
does anyone know what inspired "Flick of the Wrist"? Hope it hasn't been discussed before...couldn't find it in the archive.

Thanks!!

Sorry I could not resist the above.

In reality, it is actually about Freddie's signing of a new contract with the Sheffield brothers.

A pre "Death On Two Legs" if you like.

I don't know of any male who can resist masturbation, John.

Don't knock masterbation... it's sex with someone you love.
It always thought it was about pimp- but it does make sense of being a pre-Death On Two Legs thing. Even musically those two have something in common. (and not only being bloody brilliant :) )

The lyrics seem quite clear that it's about exploitation and signing your creative life away. I really like it and DOTL. Really angry songs. Considering Fred wrote some really delicate stuff in the same era, it really shows his talent
Tatterdemalion and the junketer There's a thief and a dragonfly trumpeter
There's references throughout to "signing", "ripoffs", etc. It's clearly about contracts, bad deals, etc, but some people seem to fail to pick up on that; I saw one explanation that the song was about some kind of mythical beast!
Oh and "reduce you to a muzak fake machine"... showing that it's specifically *music* contracts that song refers to, and how they can adversely affect the music's creativity. The clues are all there..
I still think that my original reply offers the best interpretation!

The clues are in there also;-)
