i agree the floyd take this one for me. but pink floyd are overrated too. that's not to say i don't love them to bits. they are probably my second favourite band after queen.
i think on an individual basis, keith moon and john entwistle are better players than nick mason and roger waters, pete townsend and dave gilmour, roger daltrey and gilmour/waters are too different to compare, but i think that pink floyd made up the greater whole.
and roger waters lyrics will forever be my bible.

Pink Floyd by a longshot! The Who's early albums all had hit or miss material and was not until Tommy that they had their first flawless gem. The Who while a great band were ruined by drugs and ego. Keith Moon became a shell of himself by 1976 and The Ox had demons as well as they had drug problems as did Pete Townshend whom successfully conquered his drug problems unlike Moonie ot The Ox. Pink Floyd IMHO were better in more aspects and drugs were not part of the diet after Syd Barrett was gone. The Who's trinity Tommy, Who's Next and Quadrophenia is as good as Floyd's Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and Animals. Roger Waters is a great lyricist like Townshend.

I think when it comes to band quality I go for The Who... I mean I never heard Mason doing a drumroll to be honest... and Keith Moon is so much faster although maybe fast drumming didn't belong to the Floyd sound. I prefer Daltrey's singing above Waters' singing but Gilmour is the best singer of them 3.
It's more like do you like the good old times rock 'n' roll from Tommy and Who's Next or the psychidelic sounds like Dark Side an The Wall.
I guess you didn't listen to The Grand Vizier's Garden Party on Ummagumma. There is a drum roll from Mason.

Like I said before, I find Pink Floyd to be boring. This is an uneducated opinion. I rather the 'this guitar has seconds to live' and Moonie bashing the fuck out of his drums, only to set off a tonne of gun powder in his bass drum. Love it!
So still The Who.

I'd have to say Pink Floyd. I've tried and tried to find something amazing in The Who, but I have given up... I like them, but that's all.
Pink Floyd though. Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall... What a run of classic albums.
Floyd are deep.

Pink Floyd wins by landslide.
Although I respect The Who, they're a bit overated.

Pink Floyd got better with each album. My favorite being Wish You Were Here. Also, Animals is great too. Gilmour's voice got better with each Floyd disc because he quit smoking during the WYWH sessions despite he would gain weight in later years and sometimes neglects to shave(the face that is). Waters gave up smoking too but he would ruin his voice from screaming on The Wall, The Final Cut as those albums were lyrically personal to Waters. The Who were good but drugs ruined Moon and Entwistle and almost destroyed Townshend. Daltrey was the only smart Who member not to get into heavy drugs from my knowledge.
