DVD-AUDIO?????

What I would like to know is that how much better are these thatn CD's? And Is the sound on them any better than GVH 1 or 2 DVD's?

There's no way you can compare DVD-As with CDs.
DVD-As are fuckin' brilliant, there are no words to describe how beutiful it sounds. If you have an equipment it's a must! Just listen to the guiatr orchestration on Love Of My Life or Good Company in surround. Not to mention Prophet's Song or Death On Two legs...

Does it sund different than GVH? Dunno- IMO it sounds a bit better (fuller) but maybe I'm just weird... I'd have to give both another listen...

It can depends on abilties of your stereo system as well actually, IMHO...

GVH is "only" DTS while DVD-audio discs are... ehm, DVD audio. So they should be better. To be honest, I've got a pretty good equipment and still didn't hear any major differences between DTS and DVD-audio so I'd say the DTS tracks are fine.

Huge amount of players (ie. set top box players, not PC drives) have DTS and DD decoders integrated. And if not, it doesn't matter, because if you want to listen to 5,1 sound, you must buy some A/V receiver for home theatre anyway (these equipments have DTS and DD decoders for sure).

If you are comfortable with classic stereo sound (like me), buy some DVD player (with needed decoders) and connect it to your stereo amplifier. And you can listen :-)

DVD players with DTS and DD decoders could be really cheap (I saw prices from 120 US dollars), but if you want it to play DVD-A or/and SACD too, it'll be more bucks definitely.

As depends of DVD-A sound - it's really the big difference comparing to CD Audio. On my stereo system ANATO from DVD-A sounds like if you open some curtains in front of speakers.

Think about the discs logically. GVH1 and 2 have video and audio on one disc. This is typically 4.7GB worth of data.

DVD-A discs have typically 4.7GB worth of space but just for the sound. In other words, the sound can be uncompressed and contain a lot more channels, simply because there is more memory on the disc that doesn't have video on it.

Somehow I think Queen Productions actually have the funding to use double layer DVD's. That would sort of double the size, now wouldn't it?

That assumes that every disc is filled.

It's entirely possible that DVD-A only takes up 2.7GB - in fact The Game is 3.59Gb

I bought my panasonic s-75 (plays DVD-A, DD and DTS decoder) for £120 abouttwo years ago.

Very cheap these days unless you go for top quality.

My opinion of Queen's DVD-As: Wow!

I have THE GAME and A NIGHT AT THE OPERA Audio DVDs and enjoy them very much. The sound is very clear and you will notice more details. COMING SOON is very different to the LP/CD Version because they used other master tracks for ist.

Beware when you buy a soundsystem, that this is able to encode dts 96/24, some older ones are not able to play this kind of files.

I wish they would hurry up and release more of these DVD-audio DTS things - they are brilliant. I ADORE Prophets Song - it is just so superb and in Bo Rhap - when John hits that triangle, it sounds like he is sitting on my shoulder near my left ear - the sound is awesome and you can almost imagine you are in the recording studio.
Hurry up Queen..............we want more :-)

I think DualDiscs are the next generation of DVD-Audio, as quite a few of these titles have 5.1 DVD-Audio MLP (PPCM) and (usually) Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks. Rob Thomas' "Something To Be" album is an example of this: on the DVD side, it has DVD-Audio and Dolby Digital 5.1.
Note that a lot of DualDisc titles have "Enhanced Stereo" versions of the album on the DVD side in most cases (an example being Avril Lavigne's latest album, which I forget the title for)

I can't wait until Blu-Ray discs come out!

Ah, so we can start again with 7.1 sound, then once we get three albums into that, 9.1 will be introduced.
