I really have not listened to Hot Space for years an years - then my little boy pulled it out today and asked to listen to it. I got as far as dancer and had to turn it off. Is it really that bad??? I can remember trying hard to like it when it came out - and now I can honestly say that I don't like it..... am I alone in this????!!

It's certainly does not rank in my list of the best Queen albums but it's got some really good songs on it. I like under pressure, las papabras de amor, put out the fire and life is real.

Like Mr. Drowse, I wouldn't rate it up there with my fave Queen albums but it still has some wonderful songs on it. Under Pressure is the gem on that album I think. I like Cool Cat, I'd love to hear the version with David's vocals, anyone ever heard this? I know he only does backing vocals but I've always been curious as to what it sounded like.

The more I listen to Hot Space the more I realise that its one of Queens better albums, its not to my personal taste but I think its damm good for what it is.
I love you for your mind baby give me your body.

Not the worst (AKOM isIMO) but not a good one either...
Pitty as some songs aren't bad (Staying Power really rocks live...) but this crappy production is just awful...

I really don't see the problem with Hot Space. I myself like it more than News Of The World... Easliy. To call either a BAD album would be foolish.

Not saying its BAD - but am saying that it doesn't do it for me!! Ok have to agree that Under Pressure is a great song and Life Is real is up there too. But it just doesn't compare to Queen II, DATR, NATO, NOTW etc.

The Cool Cat version with Bowie on backing vocals is quite easily to be found from the d/l programmes on internet, I think it has a bit softer sound than the album version and I like it very much. Couldn't say which one's better though, but all in all, that's my fav song on the Hot Space album alongside Under Pressure.

Demos sound much better than the actual album cuts...
And the live version of Life Is Real was just sensational, whereas-again- production destroyed the song for me on the album...

Hey Linda, what the FUCK do you care what other people think about this album. You've only been a fan for a couple of years. I agree with stormtroopers. I remember it WELL when it first came out and I also tried my best to like it. Even at the time as soon as it came out any hardcore fans like me and others quickly dismissed it. There were a few good songs on it but the majority of it was horrid. But again, they admitted that it was expeimental. And they never tried that again because oif the backlash at the time. So where you've been a fan for a few years and probably like it, the rest of us had to deal with it for the past 23 years. Even the band themselves have panned it or tried to make excuses for it at the time. Especially Roger. You have to remember, a lot of the fans that like the material they recorded in the mid to late 80'sre a young group of people. Others that grew up with them in the 70's are very critical when it comes to the stuff they did in the 80's and it started with Hot Space.

i think SOME of the songs are alreet. "Staying Power" is really good live, "Calling All Girls" is kanny gd, "Put Out The Fire" is really good and of course "Under Pressure".

Great album....and a hell of a lot better than The Works, A Kind of Magic, or The Miracle.
