i was gonna write something about my feelings on hot space, then i thought "whats the point" i know how i feel about it and it makes no difference to me if one person loves it or another person hates it. all i know is that its there and it will allways be there and thats it. fin.

"Your mind honey is a bleak place"..........(Action this Day) ..........well I got the album out yesterday and listened to it too (after ever so how long) - and cringed abit - it is not their best work for sure - but I do think these songs were much better live (as on the Milton Keynes DVD) - then they took on more personality - but the album on the whole is daft I think - although there are a couple of "gems" on there. But there is always an album we like more or less than the others, thank goodness they put out so many good ones that we can overlook this little hic-cup.

No I don't think Linda was being nasty at all BUT whenever the topic of Hot Space comes up people always groan about it and I read her comment and just got frustrated. I never wrote that I hated it but I was so diappointed when it came out Everybody at the time was used to heavy guitars or nice ballads or whatever people loved about Queen. Then they went into this funky mode. It was quite a drastic change since they just got done with a VERY popular Game album. Hot Space was what started the downfall of their popularity here in the States. So I'm not picking on Linda, my apologies for coming across pissy. Good thing the topic of what BoRap and what it's about came up. That one always starts a flurry of nasty remarks to the poster.

I will admit though that even though the songs on HOT SPACE can cause some Queenzoners to spew venom because of the direction the band took at that time there is no denying that when they took those songs to the stage and played them live, they really rocked them. The Milton Keynes show is evidence of that. Those HS songs just EXPLODED in a live concert.

I love this album. Good songs and strong ideas. I think every member of Queen allowed themselves to be browbeaten to public opinion. It's got good stuff on it. As to whether or not that makes me a 'true' fan, I don't fucking care. I wonder about 'true' fans who feel the need to compare different albums, make lists of what was 'best' and 'worst', and so forth. Why compare? You've got hours of greatness to listen to, featuring a wide spectrum of ideas, and so forth. If you don't like it, then skip it and listen to what you do like. Don't hold Queen to some pre-concieved 'sound'. Look at Bowie- hes done that more than Queen have, as in, switch musical styles- and when asked about it, he said, "I Don't have a loyalty to any 'sound' or 'genre'- I do what I like, and I do what interests me.' And I think the same is true for any artist/band, especially QUEEN. By that method of thinking, every album can be enjoyable-theres no need to compare and contrasts with past/future work.

I like Hot Space. I certainly like it more than AKOM.

Queen tried some sounds out in the funk and soul area. It's pure taste. I like it.

This album is #5 in my top five. I still haven't figured out why. The first time I ever listened to it I thought, "What in the hell is this?! This can't be Queen!" But it grew on me. Not a single bad track in my opinion.

I agree. IMO HS is equal in terms of writing, performance and production to all the other albums. It's just a different style. I also think that the HS tracks on the MK82 DVD are outstanding.

Woooooooahhhhh! Good arguments all round here! All I said was I listened to HS for the first time in years and found myself to be as disappointed in it as I was way back when. As to who is a true Queen fan and who ain't well thats a load of bull to be honest - we are all true Queen fans, whether we have been with the band since the mid 70s and saw them way back when (preen preen) or whether we came to them late after Fred's death. We all love the music and thats all that matters. The point is that we all have our favourite bits of Queen - they are so diverse that they cater for everyone in one way or another - I just don't like the dancey soul stuff at all cos I love the hard ass rock guitar stuff and the beautiful poetic ballads. It just ain't me. We are all entitled to opinions and also entitled to put out views forward. HS is the only album I was totally disappointed in - it fell down on so many areas for me and I felt like the band had sold (or 'souled' chortle chortle) out to the new dancey stuff. But hey ho - they are great experimenters and great musicians so why not try a new challenge - just wasn't for me thats all!
