Just so you all know, in the USA, Autumn/Fall is a prime time for tours.

U2 will be coing here, the Stones of course, Duran Duran is doing some shows now then more in the fall.

That's like all summer blockbuster movies are released in the states at 2 key times, May-June when the kiddies get out of school, and October thru Christmas not only for revenues..but to be eligible for that year's Academy Awards.

It's just about Fall being prime time for muisc tours that's all. Has nothing to do with The Rolling Stones trying to ambush Queen. Then again if Queen, picked a time when other bands are NOT doing big tours, that doesn't mean Queen would do any better necesasrily, because it might be a bad time for tours (ie: winter months with BAD weather is the USA, plus the Christmas/Thanksgiving season when people here visit family.

Queen like any other act, are vying for what they also call in our USA TV networks here, the "Sweeps Season", meaning the prime optimum time for music touring acts. Yes they will be competing with a tone of other bands...but...fans of Queen will most likely still pay to see Queen anyhow..because they are fans.

If any of those fans also like the other bands that are touring, they will likely arrange their schedules and it will all work out.

Here in the USA, for the last year, the ONLY bands and acts whose tours have failed, have been those who have been WAY overcharging for ticket sales. According to Pollstar, Billboard, Variety (who all monitor tours) and Clear Channel, who is the Main concert promoter and booking agent for music tours in the USA, this year was the worst ever financially for bands touring and many had to cancel their tours (even our infamous Lollapalooza Festival, Doves promoting their brand new record, etc.)...all becuase they overcharged for ticket prices in what is a very bad economy currently in the USA.

So if Queen keep their ticket prices affordable, they could actually beat out some of the other bands that are touring.

Get the fuck over it, you annoying little shit.

And well said Arlene, though if I may add one thing - The Stones have always toured the USA in the fall since about 1981. They've started every single tour in this country toward the end of August / beginning of September; it seems to be a fairly common practice for them.

so much better to go to a concert in the fall compared to summer...summer only has to offer less then fully dressed chicks on hot sweaty days...

Read this article. About Trey Anastacio cancelling his USA Festival Zooma Summer tour.

http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000937652

This is what I was referring to in my earlier post. If a band overcharges for tickets or does not properly plan to play at decent, accessible venues here in rhe USA...then they bust. I might add that Trey Anastasio has a HUMONGOUS faithful Deadhead type cult following from his days with Phish, here in the USA...

...and this tour still did not sell enough tickets in the cities it was planned for...so he cancelled the tour altogether.

But see what USA jam band String Cheese Incident says in this article about THEIR USA summer tour.

"We're projecting that almost everywhere will sell out. But we're playing 10,000 seaters, not 20,000 seaters. We feel like our cost is fair to the promoters, and the ticket prices are fair to the kids."

If Queen use good strategy, and appeal to the financial state of people here in the USA's current economic climate...and keep their ticket prices affordable, and plan to play at key geographic cities and quality venues that their fans will WANT to pay to go to and like, then they should do fine.

The Stones tour every couple of years. This isnt something new. Plus, The Stones are HUGE in America and indeed worldwide. Queen aint. The Stones have nothing to be jealous of. Plus Mick and Freddie were good friends.

Let me start by saying,

a. I'm not a Stones fan.
b. Never been a Stones fan.
c. No nothing of the relationship, if any,
between Queen and the Stones.

I just think it's kind of odd that there have been
rumors of a U.S. Queen tour in the fall for months, and all of a sudden BAM! the Stones go on tour in the U.S. in the fall.

so ALL bands touring the USA in autumn are railroading queen? - you';re a fuckwit if you genuinely think this...get a life...anyone knows thta autumn is traditionally the TOUR season for bands releasing Christmas albums...grow up!!

Agreed.
But there is a culture on Queenzone where a fan asks what they believe to be a legitimate question or share a thought, only to get some sarcastic comment in return. There are ways to write sometimes without giving the impression that one is a smartarse. I am not saying that you are a smartarse Mr. Stuart sir. I am just adding a thought

That too is correct, but my answer was neither rude or sarcastic - it was economical. Sharp and to the point.

Why is it that such a positive (emphatic) answer is viewed in a negative light?

It's a communication problem. The difficulty with Forums (and Text messaging for that matter) is we can't convey the tone of a statement we make. To try and get across the tone of what we all want to say via written text, we end up writing in CAPITAL letters or ending a statement with exclamation marks!!!!!. Most people just read that as a shouting remark and then become very defensive.

The Stones have every right to tour this summer
as does any other group. Saw the Stones last time out. Very good show. If you get a chance to go, I would recommend it.

So true, but also like Queen they lost Brian Jones, an important member to them. Similarly, their bass player quit much like you could argue John Deacon did and yet despite all this they went on to become a far better band who are still touring these days.

I will say this a million times...

"Queen" is not touring.

"Queen + Paul Rodgers" IS touring, with their lead singer....Paul Rodgers!

I will agree with you on one thing, though, Sharon....the Stones do put on a good show....I saw em back in December 94...
