"...supposed to be released..." is very different to "...rumoured to be released..."
The Darkness have never said it was gonna be released at any specific time, except hopefully this year.

I'm their lord.
Not a Darkness fan at all, but I think that novelty factor that attracted people to them has worn off. There probably listening to real rock bands now.
Garbage have been around for 10 years and have released 4 albums. There's no release time that needs to be met. I always dislike when people think it's been too long since so and so released their last album, what's taking so long, etc. etc.
I was never into The Darkness, but I was interested in what they were up to and where they'd be in 5 years. So, I guess I am still wondering what they're up to. And yes, the singing style can wear thin. I remember them before they were famous. I watched a late night show on BBC Horizons called "Roadies" and the darkness were on it. I really hated the singing, then. I have since grown to accept it. But sometimes I wish for a full voice to burst out at certain moments. Ach well...
Peace,
Adam.

I like The Darkness, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they are a top fave band of mine.
There was some beautiful guitar work on that album- some tracks sounded even like AC/DC, Aerosmith or Queen... Which is good- if the music like this gets airplay- that's better than fuckin' Keane, Franz Ferdinand or other Charts crap or whinny, pseudo-arty Coldplay stuff... All those bands sound the same anyway and have no balls whatsoever... BUT- the vocal parts... This IS the joke that wore thin. It could have worked once. It's not gonna work again. Oh- and please- this Christmas song was just too much Spinal Tap for me- absolutely awful... However- overall- it's good when guitar oriented music (riffs and all) becomes popular, nothing's wrong with that. Doesn't happen too often...
The difference between The Darkness and bands like Franz Ferdinand, Jet, Keane, or Muse is that these latest bands mentioned show their musical influence on their work, but at least make the effort to re-invent it and give it an sense of originality. The Darkness does nothing but carbon-copy every single cliche and riff from 70s & 80s bands like Queen or AC/DC, without even trying to bring any original sounds.
It's all a matter of taste, there's some people who appreciate originality and others who don't mind being sold the same product over and over again.
Jingles- what's original with Franz Ferdinand...? Tell me- I may have missed something...
Mention me one single band that sounds exactly like Franz Ferdinand.
I can see that they're influenced by The Kinks, but for the most part they do their own thing.

Partybands with catchy songs and funny image are ok in my book!! Don't care about the copying...if they're fun ;)! I think the whole "The ...." band thing is really old though, like two years ago and who started the whole thing again anyway?
The Vines?
The Strokes?
The Hives? (the singer is just a Mick Jagger-wannabe)
The Killers?
The Rasmus?
The White Stripes?
The Music?

New York Dolls? Structure is the same. C'mon- the Darkness DOESN'T sound EXACTLY like AC/DC or Queen either. It's nothing new, true. But so isn't Franz. That's just MO.
I agree with you on that Fenderek. Franz Ferdinand are nothing new. They haven't re-invented anything.

The New York Dolls was a punk band, and Franz Ferdinand can't certainly be labeled as punk.
Just admit it Fenderek, you're one of those who doesn't appreciate rock bands bringing new sounds and would rather listen the same kind of music over and over again. Not like there's anything wrong with that, because I know a lot of people who do, but in order for artists to grow they have to bring new styles, and cross over to new musical grounds. It's a tough situation because when it comes to changing sounds there's too many risks, and that's when bands get their talent put to the ultimate test. Some will stay afloat and others will sink.
Dream Theater has been playing the same music for over 10 years. I have to admit that they have a lot of talent, but they're one of those bands that is definitely afraid to change in order to not dissapoint their loyal cult fan base. They might not be losing by staying where they are, but they're not gaining anything either. On the other hand Queen and Genesis managed to remain successful despite changing their sound. Most people will say that their old stuff was their best, but I certainly appreciate that they didn't want to sell the same kind of sound on every single album.

Everytime I've gone to listen to them there's either a blackout or a thunderstorm or dinosaurs on the loose. I've been told they are good though.
Oh Jingles, Jingles...
"Just admit it Fenderek, you're one of those who doesn't appreciate rock bands bringing new sounds and would rather listen the same kind of music over and over again"
Bollocks. Find me any other band that sounds like System Of A Down... And I absolutely love them.
The punk thing... Sex Pistols was punk but so was labelled many other bands 2-3 years later. Anyway- did NY Dolls sound anything like Sex Pistols? Not really. Franz Ferdinand ISN'Ta punk band, but took a lot from that music, taken into the larger picture. Now- saying that Dream Theater sounds exactly the same for 10 years (actually it's 15) shows your ignorance- admit, you've heard no more than few tracks... There's nothing wrong with that- fine! But don't say anything about their music if you don't know it...
Just admit it, Jingles, you're one of those who justify their taste with the talk about "new and fresh" and "influential". There's nothing fresh about FF In My Opinion. You may like it (and that's good!), but it's something we also heard over and over again one way or another. I like when there's something fresh and new, but it also HAS TO BE GOOD. If for you the fact that something is "different" and "new" is enough... well, there you go, I'm sure there's shit loads of bands on charts at the moment to your liking. I prefer something GOOD. Couldn't care less if it's fresh or stale- if it's good, it's just simply good. IMO Franz Ferdinand are crap. And not because it's different (it's not), but simply because thay are BORING.

Since you're talking about these bands... I have to mentioned "Kings of Leon", they're great... and they have like the sense of style of the 60's-early 70's :D
someone else likes Kings Of Leon...I'm just getting into them myself ! We have so much in common Marial-B !!! LOL
