Thats what really happened to him
Freddie was insane when it came to drugs.
Although he didn't take them every day he went overboard when it came to special events. He had a drugs buffet at parties etc (namely the Halloween 1978 party in the USA), and he was quite generous when offering guests cocaine etc. Apparently he even tested the drugs himself before serving them to guests to make sure it was of the highest quality.
There was an amazing article about it in the UNCUT magazine a couple of months ago.
Quoting from the magazine: 'Guests are greeted by hermaphrodite dwarves serving cocaine from trays strapped to their heads; the coke has been specially imported from Bolivia and quality checked by Mercury.'

The dwarves thing has been proven false, hundreds of Queen employees and Queen members themselves said they never saw any with bowls of cocaine!
But in the Mercury Million's documentary there is a person giving an eye witness account of a dwarve serving cocaine.

I also believe that the latency period of HIV in Freddie's case was a bit shorter than the average of 10 years, due to the added effect on his system from his excessive lifestyle , the alcohol , smoking and drug consumption. His being reinfected a lot 80-83 sadly also speeded up the deterioration of his immune system. Also David Minns was not infected and he split from Freddie in 78
