it is official, I was diagnosed with Diabetes today, the doctor was very concerned with not only my high blood sugar count, but my high cholesterol.. fortunatly I am on pills instead of the insulin shots.. but that is just for now, if it don't improve they will have to put me on the shots. After finding out the signs of diabetes I came to realize that I have had this for over a year now.. but didn't know it. I am lucky.. it hasn't done a lot of damage to my kidneys yet..... but this was a very scary day for me, it changed me forever.. life as I knew it is over, I have to change my entire eating habits and everything else.. but the good news, it won't kill me if I just do as I am told.

there.. I said it.. I felt I owed it to the people that knew me for a while.. perhaps this was part of my mood swings.. of course I DO have my depression as well.. and am going to be getting that taken care of too.. but I have to get this under control first.

as far as I know, diabetes is for life... it will be ok if I eat right and always monitor my sugar level. but I dont think this is something that will actually go away.. unfortunatly

I haven't really given that much thought yet.. I know if I do stay there will be tons of "I knew he wasn't going" remarks.. and of course I agree, I deserve some of them, but this time I think I will accept them and stay for now.. mainly for all the sympathy posts about my new illness... ;-)

Kidding people.. kidding.. of course I will appreciate any donations you can give.. this is not a cheap illness.. :P

All the best, Mike. My dad has diabetes, and so do both sets of my grandparents, so it's only inevitable that it happens to me somewhere along the line.

Well, it is best if you know the signs early... the one big giveaway for me was the never ending thirst... no matter how much water I drank I was still thirsty.. and up 2 or more times a night using the restroom.. and I was always tired... never figured that out.. until now that is.. now it all makes sense..

Thanks Barry... that means a lot.. well.. maybe not a whole lot, but enough to make me happy.. :)

I know I wasn't planning on talking to you..but...

DRINK DIET RITE! Oh that stuff is sooooooo good. I could seriously live off of it.

Diet Rite has like a million flavors...a million delicious flavors.

AND, use splenda. That stuff rocks...you can bake with it, make drinks with it, and so much more.

I personally think Diet Rite cola is better than coke and pepsi.

SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK!

You take care of yourself. Stay away from sugar and white bread (that's worse than sugar..carbohydrates). We want you to stivk around for a LONG time! :)

Every member of my family either through blood, or even marriage has had SEVERE diabetes, High blood prssure, and some kind of cancer. But every member of my family was morbidly obese and smoked 6 packs of cigarettes a day.

I have never smoked, and USED to be thin, but even though I am eating LESS than ever, with being 44 now, being older and pre-menopausal my metabolism has slowed and I have gained 30 pounds in the last 4 years. So I am terrified of diabetes.

Take your medicine. The pills should be fine if you follow the regimen. That way you can stay off the insulin syringes. And the new glucose monitors are quick and easy.

Take care of yourself and Happy YOU ARE BACK!

May The Force Be With You!!!! :)

Cholesterhol wise-- if they have put you on zocor or lipitor or for that matter any pill
be sure to go out and get C O Q10-- take at least 150mg of it a day--

statins remove Co Q10 from the body-- we naturally produce about 50mg at night of it-- if you do not supplement it you will get the muscle aches-the pains on up to liver and muscle damage

also Flaxseed oil-- take 2 1000mg a day-one in the morning the other at night--this will lower your bad cholesterhol while raising your good one...
non flushing niacin will also raise good cholesterhol

vitimin c is also a good natural lowerer of cholesterhol

there are some statins you should never take---crestor for one-- bad bad bad one...
vytorin-- another one-- on study group has the same warning for this as they do for crestor and baycol, and celebrex

watch the starch carbs and sugar too....

Mike you dont even need to be a Queen fan here, lots of people don't know much about the band anyways!
It sucked about what you have, I remember the last 5 years of my mom's life how she had that, come to think of it most people in my family had it, so far I have seemed to avoid it.
It's mostly an annoying habbit, no suger etc etc, you'll get used to it, sorta like a shitty diet
MY GOD spell it write.

You just have to think about your food before you eat. Read labels so you know the carbohydrate contents.
I've been insulin dependant for over 20 years and there aren't that many restrictions if you have knowledge.
Take care.

You really should follow a strict diet. My father was a diabetic who started out on pills and ended up having to take insulin shots. I have to wonder if he couldn't have controlled it better through diet and not let it get to that point.

My uncle is a diabetic as well...and although you will have to change your eating habits and be careful to watch your blood sugar, I am sure you will manage to get things on track to where it will all become second nature to you. It certainly is to my uncle after all the time that he has had it.

Best wishes to you, Mike.
