Not good news at all, but glad it's not severe. Maintain your health to your greatest capacity. Be strong and don't let it get the best of you.

Take care, Mike.

it is official, I was diagnosed with Diabetes today, the doctor was very concerned with not only my high blood sugar count, but my high cholesterol.. fortunatly I am on pills instead of the insulin shots.. but that is just for now, if it don't improve they will have to put me on the shots. After finding out the signs of diabetes I came to realize that I have had this for over a year now.. but didn't know it. I am lucky.. it hasn't done a lot of damage to my kidneys yet..... but this was a very scary day for me, it changed me forever.. life as I knew it is over, I have to change my entire eating habits and everything else.. but the good news, it won't kill me if I just do as I am told.

there.. I said it.. I felt I owed it to the people that knew me for a while.. perhaps this was part of my mood swings.. of course I DO have my depression as well.. and am going to be getting that taken care of too.. but I have to get this under control first.

I wish you all the best Mike!!!

My grandmom has diabetes and is 93 years old... so like you said, as long as you just take the advise nothing will happen.
I got to try al little more, because I'm an asshole but I'm learning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfTLkUcQ7QY

It's good that you've been diagnosed and you can get the treatment your body deserves. One of my best friends has been a diabetic since the day after her 1st birthday. They found out bc she went into a diabetic coma and was in kidney failure. She is a very brittle diabetic but has amazing control over her sugars. I've seen her dump 2 packs of equal and 4 packs of sugar in one glass of iced tea!!! I've seen her drink Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper, Orange Sunkist, etc one after another!! I asked her how she can get away with that..she says she adjusts her insulin (she takes injections 2x a day)!!! I get mad at her but she seems to know what she's doing. She can tell you within 2 points of what her sugars are before she tests them. I guess if you've basically always lived with it, you know nothing different.

The only thing I can think of to offer that everyone else here hasn't already mentioned is to take special care of your feet. If you get any sores or anything at all unusual with your feet you need to call your doctor asap!

We have a nice group of physicians on the Zone!!!

Best Wishes Mike!!

yeah the doctor drilled the foot thing into me while I was there...

at the moment I have very HIGH blood sugar, it hasnt dropped below 250... and just this morning it was 279.. and that was before eating.. and the doctor told me that it might take a couple months to get this under control, but I PRAY I dont have to do the shots, I am using the pills right now..

I know it won't happen overnight but I need to change my eating habits drasticlly... I learned that Ketchup is out of the question.. and for me that is like my blood, I use ketchup on just about everything.

I'm sure you will do the right things!! You don't have to get the injections if the actual shot is what you are afraid of. They make those insulin pumps now too. We have two diabetic students at my school. They both have the pump. I'm hearing there have been lots of break-throughs in the area of diabetic research. It looks very hopeful for a cure or a better method of treatment.

I guess with taking the gluco pills you can't really adjust the amount of insulin you take to combat the amount of carbs or sugar you injest since the pills are pre-measured. I think that is how my friend gets away with eating whatever she wants even though she shouldn't be doing that. She has NEVER drank diet soda, NEVER.

Best wishes to you Mike and to Janet. You both know we are all here for you to vent on if things get scary or frustrating.
