was hot space album that bad?

i would ask people what album didnt make a hit to and it was mainly HOT SPACE there answer would be because they used computerized sounds and other things that isnt there normal queen sound, i have hot space album and i think its great nothing wrong with it... people may now start to disagree with me about this or people may agree with me but whatever it is please say your thoughts about it....

Hot Space isn't that bad. It's just very different from what we know from Queen. HS ain't my favorite album but I don't like it 'less' than the other Queen albums and I really, really can't stand closed-minded people just saying 'HS sucks and that's it'. It doesn't sucks, it's just something else, it's different. Rolling Stone Magazine once said that Hot Space was one of the biggest failure of all rock n'roll history. This is a perfect example of closed-minded opinions and people who are just too dumb to get the thing. I can understand that some people can't gwet used to this funk-dance-disco music style. That's fine. But it would be nice if those people could still be respectful and open-minded about it...

I concur.
As a rock album, it fails miserably.
As a dance/funk/R&B album, it's catchy. Like the plague, but catchy.
I think that for a better example of how Hot Space doesn't suck, grab the On Fire concert, or something from the Hot Space tour.
Action This Day, Back Chat, and Staying Power all flawlessly transfer into rock tunes.

well thanks bhm 0271 im just coming up with things to say and im wondering what other people like me think about hot space as it was taken for granted mostly, which is sad anything from queen was great they have great talent on music, and i think they wanted to change, they thought is was a good idear at the beggining so they went ahead not noing that people will dislike it abit, they get bored sometimes they addmitt that alot in interviews, so they were just making something new and diffrent for there fans...
i say its not my favourite album but its still great to me and i also hate it when people make jugdements on how crap it was and they should just stick to rock, well im sorry but queen can do what they want rock pop dance, they did rock/dance in "another one bits the dust" and that was a monstro hit everywhere made millions so how can hot space be any diffrent from that!

Well, at the time it was released I was disappointed. Afterall, for the first several years up to that point we were used to rocking Queen albums and then in '82 they threw us a curve with Hot Space. Totally unexpected! But when they brought those songs to the stage for the tour it was a different story. Still not my favorite album after all this time but I do like a few of the songs.

put out the fire and under pressure are some of the greatest queen songs ever, as are calling all girls and las palabras de amor (to a lesser extent)

staying power, dancer, and action this day are great although they are dance songs (which alienated fans in the first place, although i cant say why)

the remaining songs (back chat, body language, life is real, and cool cat) are all either bouncy and catchy or just plain beautiful (life is real)

i honestly cant say why no one liked this album

Hot space was a sample of Freddie's personal life and lifestyle.As a solo album-which i think it is-it could have come with no risk.As a Queen album it took a rock band down the path rockers feared when they heard AOBTD.Remember here in America it is not like Europe where risk and experimenting is seen as cool.They lost the american rock fan who says dude alot and works at a garage.Sadly those are the same kids the hair bands went for and got here.Kudos to all the rest of you for staying with the worlds greatest band.Our loss we missed the Works and Magic tours.Anyway is it a bad record-no

probably Queen's worst...but better than most of what was out there....the single was probably Queen's worst which didn't help sales either...would have been better as a Freddie solo album as it was mainly his idea anyway....just didn't rock enough really which really hurt them in North America....too much synths, didn't care for the machine drum sounds, the horns (would have been better if Brian created them).....sounds way better live when Queen could rock it out which is what they did best

IMO it's terrible.
I'm a rock fan- I can appreciate different styles WHEN they're done properly.., When I want to listen to FUNK I'll listen to some decent funk bands... Queen could have made a great record had they decided to mix the funky feeling with some rock, if they did THEIR version of funk and dance... Instead of being creative they went the easiest way and produced some terrible stuff like Body Language... Sorry- I can't listen to it, my heart is breaking... ;)

Hot Space is an excellent album. After The Game my favorite eighties album. You got to listen to the songs carefully. And not just fastly skip arround them like you only wanna hear Under Pressure. It is a completely different Queen style. And you got to get used to it. Listen it a view times and it is really great.

I like it. There's just no such thing as a bad Queen album.

It's a good album, but compared to other Queen stuff it doesn't come close.

I always wondered what Hot Space would sound like if it was made more in the vein of ''The Game''?

Maybe it would sound slightly more like their live counterparts - we'll never know...
