I'm a Queen fan, so I like it. I like Flash Gordon too.
I don't know if Nevermore or Lily Of The Valley are rock songs (and they're not actually), but people still love QII and SHA.

It's not neccesairly about being rock or not. It's the production and arrangments- Staying Power for insance proved to be a great, awesom etrack when played live. But the album IMO was the opportunity missed... If the SP was in a version similar to Milton Keynes one- I'd lack words to describe how good it is. If the BACK CHAT was as nice as live- same. Unfortunatelly- the album sound sucks big time IMO. Life Is Real- another example. I find it irritating on album, yet the live version is absolutely beautiful- especially Roger's backing vocals.
Couldn´t agree more. Though it´s not my favourite 80´s album, I think It´s wonderful!
You just have to open your mind. People need to branch out, experiment. OTherwise they become robots. Band members are like that too. See U2's Zooropa. The Who's "Who by Numbers". There's loads of career quirks out there.
By the way, Lord of Darkness. Is it "Hallo Spaceboy", "Pinball Wizard", and a wee quote from one of the numbers on "Dark Side of the Moon"?

I will never think highly of 'Body Language' and 'Staying Power', but the album really is a diamond in the rough. If you can get by those two awful, awful songs, then you have an good album with poor production: 'Back Chat', 'Calling All Girls', and 'Life Is Real' are excellent songs and would've been good singles, while 'Las Palabras De Amor' is just gorgeous. All the songs minus the aforementioned two are up to Queen standards, but needed better production and actual drums instead of machines.
It really was the last truly experimental album the band did; their next three albums were pretty generic. I get the feeling that they sort of gave up on trying new things when Hot Space was received so poorly. Shame, really.

No Hot Space is as a very good album.It is very different from the others.Many Queen fans say it's bad because it doesn't contain a "rock" song.But Freddie says they are looking for a new sound.i like that - Queen aren't only rock Gods,and this album shows their sound is much more vast.

well i think the same to BG.innuendo queen can do anything try anything and its up to people to like them buy them but i dont have not 1 bad album of queen its all good to me there fanastic talented entertainers...

I initially fell in love with Queen's music because of the rich harmonies, the originality and complexity of the music, and the passion and energy it inspired.
While I awaited the Hot Space album with enthusiasm, I listened to it and was disappointed. The boys in Queen had obviously attempted to try something in a different direction, and for me it was too far from what originally attracted me to their music.
I don't view Hot Space as a bad album. I view it as an effort by the artists to continue to push the envelope of expression and skills. While many of their skills are very adequately displayed on this album, I just didn't care for the new style of expression.
But I never lost my love and passion for Queen's earlier music. And Queen produced a lot of material after Hot Space which rivaled the passion, musicianship, harmonies, drive and energy of their earlier music.

they had rock (1973-1981) and pop (1984-1989) in most of their songs
dance (most of hot space)
jazz (dreamer's ball)
blues (my melancholy blues, jealousy)
dark, beautiful songs (most of innuendo)
wonderful love songs (most of made in heaven)
and everything else were ballads
