Severus Snape is actually a death eater who killed Dumledore and was known as the Half-Blood Prince.

Good night.

You are a fucking wanker. Just because it says spoilers allowed dosen't mean you shoudl DO it.

Ass.

JUST BECAUSE THE FORUM TOPIC IS HERE DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD VISIT IT.

Even though I read the spoilers before the book, I couldn't believe Dumbledore died. I'm still hoping there's a catch in there somewhere. And maybe I'm an optimist, but I always thought Snape could've been good! I can't wait to see how the next book turns out now that Harry's not going back to Hogwarts.
Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.

I didn't know what was going to happen, but I gotta say I was pretty dissapointed with the book. Just went on and on about not a lot. All the petty in fighting reminds me of my sister, and 16/17 in this day and age do not get all shy at the site of the opposite sex like that.
Still was good, just not what I was expecting.
I
Just finished the book.

I started reading it at about 9:45AM local time on Saturday morning, and finished it this morning, Wednesday at 4:24AM, so in other words for an approx. total of 3 days and 19H 20M
(I could've finished it sooner, as I finished book 5 in exactly 3 and a half days as I've mentioned before, first time I read it. I've had other things happen this week to prevent me breaking that record)

I actually cried when I got to the part where Dumbledore got killed, and that's really saying something. I didn't cry when Sirius got killed off in the last book, but this death really got to me.

But I think it will lead to something BIG in the 7th and final book in the series...what exactly, lies yet ahead to be seen.

Well then, you shouldn't have clicked the topic title link, dumbass.

There *WAS*, or IS, a reason that I created a topic about this book in the first place, which I later revised the title for to include "(No spoilers please)", and then later decided to create a "spoilers discussion"-type thread about the same book, because I realized afterwards it wouldn't be fair for us not to have an opportunity to express our thoughts and feelings.

And the last time a HP book got released (in this case, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"), there was only ONE topic, and thus spoilers eventually leaked onto the topic and people got angry. Hence my helping to avoid that situation again by creating two topics on the new book this time.
I
Oh, and is it just me, or does anyone else think that little kids should NOT read this book until they're older...?

What with the darker themes, swear words, and other things...
S
AWWW come on darker themes, swear words, gosh, we can handle it. We've been through the first grade!!
B
Swear words? Where were the swear words?

Still think Snape will redeem himself in Book 7. Or Harry will find the truth about Snape after either him or Voldy has killed him.
Guess who's back?
I
Doesn't "slut" count as a swear word?

If it WAS a children's book (which I do not believe it to be, despite its categorization as one), wouldn't that be too risky a word to put in?

Same . . . I don't think I've cried whilst reading any of the other books (maybe gotten a little bit watery-eyed, but that's it), but Dumbledore was the one character whose loss I knew would really make me teary.

I bought the book at 9pm on Monday, and finished it at 4am today (Wednesday). That's less than 36 hours, and I had a 5 hour shift at work yesterday, and I slept somewhere in there too. Not bad, eh?

That isn't too bad, really.

Book 2 only took me slightly less than 24 hours to read, so that's the fastest I've read any of the Harry Potter books (and that one was the first one I'd ever actually read too!)
G
You started with book 2??? Why's that?

Because I was never originally interested in the Harry Potter series to begin with.

I'll explain...

It was in 2001, when the first HP movie came out, that my dad decided to take me, my sisters, his ex-girlfriend and her kids to see the movie, so I thought "Why not?". Turns out I actually liked the movie.

Flash forward to summer 2002: I was at my grandparents' place for the summer in Ontario. And one day I found a copy of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" lying around, which I discovered was my cousin's copy. So I started reading it, and I was basically hooked. I read it in less than 24 hours from the first afternoon that I started reading it to the next afternoon when I finished it.

So there was my curiosity now begun at that point to find out what happens in the next Harry Potter book. I saw the movie adaptation of book 2 twice(!), first time by myself, and second time with my sisters. I really enjoyed that movie when it came out back in late 2002.

And then in early 2003, after I had been with McDonald's for some time, I finally got myself copies of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", and "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" during the winter time shortly after Christmas, if memory serves me correctly. (I remember the muddy floors in the mall where I got the 3rd book at Coles)
I got the first two books at Shoppers Drug Mart, and I'm glad I did, because my copy of book 1 has a different back cover than what they sell now for copies of the book. (The copy I have has a young goatee'd wizard on the back, while newer copies have Dumbledore. Does anyone know why this is?)

And then a friend of dad's visited (while I was away at some other place), and since she couldn't meet me, she left me $50 CDN on my bed along with a navy blue (golf?) shirt. I used some of the money to get "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire".

And I've read those stories of course.

So then for the first time, with "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", I was actually waiting for a new HP book to come out in later 2003. It came out eventually, on the same day as my ex-girlfriend's birthday incidentally. It took me exactly 3-½ days to read it.

I could've read the new book in less than that, but I've been a bit lazy to be honest. That and I've been trying to get myself set up with Hire A Student so I can get some work through that service here in Canada.

But overall, if you were to ask me, I think books 3, 5 and 6 are my favourites.

I've read book 5 over 5 times! (Partly 'cos I bought both the Canadian and American edition versions of that book, which is the only time so far I've done for any of the books. I want to do the same for book 6)
G
Haha, I read book 5 in 1 1/2 days. :P

I've only read 5 and 6 once, but I've read the 4th at least 3 times, and I've read the first 3 probably around 8 times each. I used to be a huge HP nut!

I even went to see J.K. Rowling when she came to Toronto for the public reading. It was pretty cool, lots of people were dressed up and stuff! Plus, I really admired her, so it was nice to be able to see her in person and everything.
Playful as a pussycat.

Ugh Dumbledore is dead, I can't see him coming back it's like the people at Wotmania all think Moraine is coming back. I doubt it JK Rowling isn't that great of an author, I can't see her doing that.. The books are all relatively predictable and really I don't see her doing that, I see him as being dead and staying dead. I Don't see him pulling a Gandalf and coming back; especially with only one book left.

IMHO not a very good ending, with Harry not wanting to go to school the next year... seems rather stupid.
